Are you talking about conventional valvoline, syn blend or full synthetic Their is a big difference. Conventional oil is going by the way side even in OEM applications to be able to give better warranties. I don't even use it in my generator that calls for sae 30. it runs better and cooler on synthetic So much confusion or Man you guys should see the deal on ATF ! Better change that transmission oil too!!!

Talk about nonsensical.

The flavor of VR1 commonly discussed on ccf and specifically linked in this thread is a conventional oil.

There seems to be some confusion about synthetic and synthetic blends which have no relevance in this thread.

Like when people ask if you ski naked hollywood and you say "alot" . Base stock oil price that they use to blend with has risen quite a bit in the last few years,

Pete, Pete, Pete

Your memory ain't what it used to be. Check the links below

There have been at least a few people on here who have had a big oil pan on their 351w, all from the early 70's in the days when PCM was a division of Waukesha.

But.............just like the elusive Bigfoot nobody seems to have gotten a picture of one and posted it on CCF.

Users bobcycleb, jeffware, and rmccauley all seem to have vanished, I think they were attacked and swallowed up by their giant oil pans while they were trying to get a picture..

Maybe Zwoobah can successfully get a picture of his and post it here. His engine is from about the same time period probably.. Be careful Zwoob.

I think his boat is shrink wrapped till spring though and I don't think it's a Waukesha/ PCM marinization either.

Just like Bigfoot, they're out there , never successfully captured and photographed

I put it in the oil pan. Not sure what pan is on my 351, but that’s what it takes to be at the full mark on the dipstick. Might have been closer to 7.5qt.

out of a dozen similar engines all the valvoline or quaker state engines had sludge or scored bearings more than others. all of similar rpm range, maintenance and hour level. Seeing what I have seen about as good as a fram filter.

Ross,
Is this from your own observation with tearing down engines? If so, how many have you found sludge'd up?

(50 gallons oil, 125 gallons fuel, 10 oil filters, over 1 set rear tires, 60 to 80 pistons, 60 to 80 rods, same for bearings and rings, ect ect ect)

ALSO bear in mind that our engines in the drag car only lasted about 5 seconds before catastrophic failure. We used 50 gallons of oil during a 3 day weekend and that was 80 or 90 weight synthetic racing oil Destroying 10 engines in that timeframe. Nitro Methane at 95% harms a lot of parts!!!
