Tough question Pete.   All depends upon the vehicle.   Several still have flat tappet cams and therefore I prefer high zinc content oils   I lean more towards full synthetics in the motor home and my everyday current model drivers. I change oil at 3500 to 4000 mile intervals and always use a new filter   Some say "overkill" but that is what I like to do. Clean oil is the ticket to engine like. Dirt ( and acids) wears parts out quicker than anything. I keep the airplane oil so clean that it is sometimes hard to see on the dip stick.
Appreciate your comment on knowledge. ALSO bear in mind that our engines in the drag car only lasted about 5 seconds before catastrophic failure. We used 50 gallons of oil during a 3 day weekend and that was 80 or 90 weight synthetic racing oil Destroying 10 engines in that timeframe. Nitro Methane at 95% harms a lot of parts!!!

Anyway thanks for the heads up on this oil deal. Duane
Always fun chatting with you

Oil is overrated. I have an 07 Silverado with 6.0 bought new. 300k+. Pumped it dry of oil at 90 miles and once again around 200k. Changed oil it in 5x and filter 4x. At 220k I discovered the oil fill cap was missing so I stuck a grocery bag and rubber band on it for another 80k. I think there’s alot of oil myths out there.

Note-I do not do this abuse to my boats.

Good thing it's out of stock. I hear it wrecks engines.

You have been saved.

I clicked the link listed towards the top of this thread this morning and a case of 6 is only $12.65. Bought 2 cases last week at the $17 price and ordered 2 more cases this morning.

Ross,
Only if you open the sealed container. The MVTR of HDPE is only .5. That's real low! Maybe you could convince the oil companies to go back to metal cans?

Anything that runs under 5000 rpms is a truck or a tractor. Anything that cheap I would question how long its been sitting on the shelf. Just about any oil will collect water to some degree. brake fluid is especially prone.

Good joke about oil reuse but true for me.

In the last few years of my ownership, I would have less than 10 hrs on oil but still change it out before winter.

I repurposed the slightly used oil to lawnmowers & other small engines (unfortunately it is too thick for snowblower).

BTW, I bought some Mobil1 & sent in the rebate form.    I thought I had wasted a stamp but 3 months later I get a $14 check. Woo hoo!

We run VR1 in most of our old engines, but do run Amsoil in our modern Indmar engine. Running it increases the rpms by 200. Pricey, but good stuff.

So Roscoe you must be getting your Amsoil for about 2.45 a quart these days since the price in the sale everybody was jumping on was about 2.85 a quart for VR1

or maybe when you checked the link the sale was over
