Emphasis on the “or so”... looks like a 77 to me. 76 should have had a natural windshield. 78 got the molded aft deck vents. 79 got the molded front vent.

I think you might want to rethink what you think you know about a 76 windshield

Now I’m rethinking... did the SN get the black screen a year earlier than the other models? Or did some go out the door with each style? Trying to recall if I’ve seen the vented natural screen on the SN (I know this was the case for the Tique).

The 76 I had in my garage had a bright windshield and bright rubrail. Original family still owned it.

The one in my garage was original too having bought it from a friend when it was a year old and having spent a fair amount of time in it that first year before buying it

You guys might want to also figure out what year (or so) the clearance bar disappeared from the SN (not other models, just the SN) with a redesign of the rear deck that also changed the ladder shape at the top

By the way, the 76 brochure just might say something under "standard equipment"

I wouldn't doubt that there were some leftover windshields from 75 that they had to use, it was during their "lean years" but it's real easy to find the black versions and maybe there's a unicorn or 2 out there hiding in Zach's garage.

I will agree with that. CC always used up the remaining goodies if they had them.

My 78 had the same hood scoop shown in the pic as a 79, in the rear my 78 did not have the bar and the vents were like the 79 pictured. My 78 had the black windshield with the vents.
Those vents were great on 100 degree ski days, we used them all the time.

I see a very nice 1978 for sale on this forum, asking 8,000 with new stringers, cover and interior with 500 hours.
When you look at the amount of work and expense bringing one back from the dead that looks like a really great deal to me.

Definitely a 76 in that picture. 77 got molded deck. A few early 76’s got the non vented 75 silver windshield along with rounded bucket drivers seat and the painted black dash instead of black gel, such as mine. Only seen 2 or 3 76’s like that. When did the black shadowing disappear on the letters and stripes to be replaced with black outline, 77 or 78?

John,
To eliminate all the confusion on the year, guess you'll need to post the HIN that's molded into the upper starboard side of the transom.

All the 76 talk is about the boat you say you owned in the 80's in this picture

It wasn't a 79, it was a 76 (or so)

The boat you have now has the 79 style hood scoop and windshield, but you can make Pete happy by looking at the HIN number on what you have now and figuring out that it's a 79 (or so) with some non original lettering among other things

By the way, the 2 red things were for air to exit the bilge area, the blower was mounted under one of them blowing air out and the other just had ducting from the bilge area up to the scoop or vent or whatever you want to call it.

The 79 had one big louver in the middle of the rear deck that was done a couple years (or so) earlier.

I'm trying to figure out how the Ski pole is mounted as there is no engine mount as in the 83.
I have figured out the top of wood for the seats, but should there be something underneath, maybe more wood?????

John,
At the bottom of the pylon, there's a 1" pin that fit's into a socket that's glassed into the keel. Then at the sole (floor) level the pylon should have a square plate welded to it. This plate is bolted to the floor and under it a 2x that spans the port and starboard main stringers.

JT

The thread in the link has some pylon pictures (page 1 and 5) to go along with Pete's word description.

As an added bonus, you might find some other useful info for your 79 in the same thread.

Pete Is that 2x connected to the stringers or just the flooring.? Can't figure out how to put it in there. Need some input from you guys .
Thanks
JT

I checked the link that Ken posted , but it shows like 4 pieces of 2x something in front of engine, but can't tell where any bulhead might go if any.

I have a file but all metric sizing.. if you PM Quinner he has taken the time to convert into imperial sizing, if you have access to a plotting printer with a roll of paper feed it can be printed off to make a full size paper template.
Good luck with your build and thanks for saving a gen 2 SN.

Never understood why people tear everything out then try to start from scratch.
When I did mine I removed the worst side first leaving the other intact to mirror and get my heights.

Ha. I wouldn't have even bothered if mine looked like that. Mine came out in small pieces, and dust.
