Got my carpet from Christine's before they closed and if memory serves they indicated the NWZ era boats used about a 20 oz carpet for floors & sides both. Most or all of the newer boats will use about a 40 oz carpet for at least the floor though the sides may still be the 20. But I think most of these are also snap-in carpets, not glue down.
Yes, higher OZ could be considered better ... from a certain perspective. They are certainly thicker and more "plush". But my personal experience is the thicker and "plusher" they are the longer they'll hold the moisture and the better chance of mildew and eventually rot. At the very least you wouldn't have that cold, wet & soggy feeling between you toes the next day when you first step in. I'd stick with the thinner 16 to 20 oz. carpets. As long as you buy quality carpet, the thinner pile will still last just as long or longer and most assuredly will dry considerably quicker. Again, my experience. |
