I am new to this forum and have found it to be informative, helpful and enjoyable.
Thus far my favorite poster has to be Keno. He helped me order the proper electronic igniter for my rebuild-restore project of my 78 Southwind. I felt scolded at first but then realized this guy knows his stuff. Since then I have come to appreciate his snark and sarcasm almost as much as his general boat knowledge. I realize that I am opening myself up for ridicule and harassment from all but...
I could use a daily dose of Keno snark....the guy works in sarcasm and snark like Van Gogh did water color!!

Keno and Petey smarties comments are the reason I check in everyday. In all honesty there’s a wealth of knowledge and good heart there just sometimes it has trouble getting out nicely.

KENO knows his stuff. No doubt. Many of us have been on the receiving end of KENO’s biting wit...some more than others. At the end of the day, KENO is a great resource and I’m grateful that he takes time to help out on this Forum.

(Someone just needs to disable his CCFan search function)

And a tip of the hat to Pete also. Pete has great experience and a willingness to share.

Thanks again, Gents.

Brett..........Keno keeps Pete in check.......... for that alone he should get CCF bonus points.
FYI - When you earn your "stripes" from BOTH Keno and Pete..........then you know you are really becoming part of the CCF family.
Almost forgot..........be sure to reach out to Pete with any boat customization questions you may have.

All right Brett, enough of the niceness.

It's not snark and sarcasm either....................it's snarkasm. I think I just invented that word so I can spell it however I want to

You might say I've had some experience with these inboards and like most things in life there is usually more than one way to accomplish something and when somebody puts out some incomplete or "not quite right information" I figure it should be pointed out with some humor mixed in.

I'm glad me and Pete keep people entertained. We try

Now as far as keeping Pete "in check" that's an impossible, dirty, thankless, exhausting job but somebody has to at least try

I mean even in the middle of a good "discussion" I sent him all the stuff he needed to convert his electronic distributor back to points, but do ya think he's done it yet?

There are a whole bunch of knowledgeable people here and in the end I figure it's a team effort getting things figured out.

I could go on but I gotta go now, Nurse Ratched is here to get me

Keno has forgotten more than most of us will ever know about these boats and their engines. If he does not have a picture he is just apt to go out and disassemble his engine to get you a pic. His wit is only exceeded by his ability to show it!!! He is a true asset to CCF. Keep up the good work my friend
Keep it as original as YOU want it

Yeah I'm still in the shut up and let the adults talk about stuff phase of boat/ engine knowledge.

Most cases there's no need for me to insert my inexperience and naivety into these discussions.

So thanks to all those guys for dropping knowledge that I can lurk and mine for gold when I need it.

Where did you all learn what you know...fill in some blanks boys.
I know I would love to hear your backgrounds.
This is the part where Keno asks for a pic then sends me a link to Keno's knowledge post.

Pete is a schooled and practiced engineer who also worked at a CC dealer.

Ken is still mystery. I don’t know anyone who’s met him from here in person. Maybe he’s Pete’s good guy alter ego? Pete’s been to several events and is well known on the pro tubing circuit.

I do like Ken’s ‘sparky’ comments too.

I believe both studied at the Nacy Pelosi school of Charm, Grace & Beauty. If you look carefully on CNN, you can often catch a glimpse of KENO disassembling a video camera or Pete conferring with Anderson Cooper about the proper interval to change a raw water impeller.

Ken is not his real name. You won't find any pictures of him or see him at an event. The government spent alot of your tax dollars placing him in the witness protection program so they are not about to start all over

Ken's a retired ex military assassin in the WitLess protection program as Gary mentioned it'as a good thing for some of you guys that I'm retired

Well what i really did was split atoms, boil water and make electricity along with some nuclear waste.

Made propellers turn in the Navy with some of that steam and liked it so much I got out and got a job in civilian nuclear power. (OK the money was good too)

It was pretty enjoyable but when I could retire, I thought that retirement would be more enjoyable.................turns out I was right.

As far as boats, I'm just one of them there Hobbyists, I usually work in the back yard under a shady tree

An old CC dealer turned me into the mad man that I am now when it went to him for a tune up after I got the boat, that I figured I might learn something from. I learned that it would never go back to the dealer 'cause I could screw it up as easily as he did, without having to pay extra for him to do it.

A good friend who grew up with engines who taught me a lot about things like carburetors and distributors and things just progressed from there

The picture below is what I'm striving to be able to accomplish in the back yard when my trees get taller

To you and all those who serve in uniform -- THANK YOU for your service.
(A special "shout out" to my son, Lieutenant Davidson, USAF)

I have an uncle who served on a diesel boat and then on a boomer. After his stories, I have all the respect in the world for those who earned their "dolphins".

The hard part was the ceremony where you drank your dolphins and got them pinned to your chest.

The ceremony changed in later years at least officially

I still don't understand why the Navy didn't wait to name the SSN 666 the Sea Devil. LOL. There were handful of guys who came over to my boat after the Sea Devil was decom'd, although it was a few years after you left.

Ken and Pete are great assets to this site. Ken helped me keep the Tique going on multiple occasions, through guidance and even some parts donations to the cause, always much appreciated. Pete is equally knowledgable, tho you have to pass his screening questionnaire to get his support. Questions typically include:

Why do you want to do that?
How do you know its broken?
Why did you buy one of those?
Why did you do that?
Did you check it with your VOM?
Why dont you fix it yourself?
Why dont you just chuck it up in the lathe and make a new one? (distributor, propeller, shaft, headlights, engine mounts.....) Kudos to him for being able to do that, but some of us fall short in that department.

If you can answer those to his satisfaction, he is happy to help. If you fail to answer his question, he will copy and paste it into fresh posts until you do.

On a related topic, I was talking to another long timer at Gregs back in October, who was sort of musing on how the character of the site has changed over the years. I guess that is likely to happen after as many as 15 years, which is how long I and some others have been around. On the upside, 15 years is a long time. Survived longer and a whole lot more successfully than Myspace or the HotBot or Jeeves search engines. That longevity is attributable to a great webmaster (Keith) who has kept it going and great people who have become friends on line and in person. I just retold the story at Gregs how several years ago I told my wife an on-line friend (JBear) and 3 complete strangers I have never met before (Scott and Gene Monahan and Bill Berry) are coming to spend the night at our house. That common bond of loving these old boats and a passing but not extreme/too intense interest in watersports has kept it going.

On the downside, through the years, it may have come to feel a little bit like high school and got a little clique-y. Remember table 1 in the cafeteria, the one where the cool kids sat. Back in the day, they got in there and mixed it up with the rest of us. These days, doesnt seem like quite so much. Just an observation. But it seems a lot goes on "behind the scenes" these days. Things we used to see on here and enjoyed seeing or learning from, but dont show up any more. That part is too bad. Again, just an observation. I guess time passes. Kind of sad to have to go over to Facebook   (not my favorite retreat) CC page to get some of that banter back. Plus, over at the FB CC page, although the posters know an awful lot, most of it is cringe-worthy wrong.
