Insurance Premium

My insurance with Ski Safe just came in. I am looking at $440. this year. I do carry high coverages but that seems like a lot for a 1995 Ski Nautique?
This boat is now 24 years old.   
Do you guys pay similar rates or is this in line with todays market.

Thanks, and yes I just paid it so I should have asked a couple weeks ago while there was time to move if necessary.

I have a stipulated value also but they limited it to $13,000. I could not talk them in to any more value even though it is in nice condition with low hours. I see them sell for more but the insurance does not care.

Ken, I have had exactly one loss on my boat insurance in 35 years, it was 4 years back now.

On the subject, some insurance Co's will not do agreed value on older vessels. In my experience rates tend to stay low after the boat is a couple years old and then can creep up as they age, the actuaries seem to believe older vessels are more likely to have issues, such as sinking and that sort or thing, hence the higher premium. Kind of like our health care premiums as we age

We use several companies. They're all over the place on price and whether they'll offer coverage. We have the old boats through Progressive as Skisafe won't insure them. Greg, funny how they insured your Chris Craft. Did you get the policy a long time ago?

Mine is 6-something for 2 boats, the 2000 and 2016 SN. 500K/500K. Agreed upon value for the 2000 and a very high value for the 2016 that I'm not going to argue with for sure. Foremost via Farmers.

Stating premium cost without describing liability limits, comprehensive coverage, deductible amount etc is mostly useless.

That said, the amounts I’m seeing posted here still sound very high. I have used many of the companies referenced above (ski safe, progressive, global, Ace, etc) and never had a claim but would encourage everyone to check out Hagerty. They’re affiliated with the ACBS and are familiar with older boats and inboard ski boats (as well as classic cars etc). They can write agreed upon (not “stated”) value at any amount you’d like. The worst feedback I could find on them was Petes claim that an adjuster once walked across some mahogany brightwork with sandy sneakers.

I’m using progressive for the 67. Agreed value $8000 full coverage. $200 annual. I was happy with that

That wreck was no fun to live through and the part that was the hardest is it was my fault.

My son could have moved the car forward to avoid the hit but my wife who was in my other car with my son ordered him not to. If I could have had 3 or 4 more feet certainly less than 10' there would have been no cantact. There was a little fawn standing right in front of his bumper, part of 4 or 5 deer that jumped out in front of him, the deer moved but that fawn stayed put. I was crushed since this boat had zero damage at all when I bought it, at least cosmetically it was perfect, I had just fixed the mechanicals and then wrecked it. The boat would have had zero damage if the trailer straps had not failed letting it slip forward. I later added the stop chains that are now mounted on that trailer. Looking back I think the boat came forward on the trailer when I hit the brakes not when I hit my Tahoe,
Wet bunks, downhill 50 MPH, stood on the brakes. That probably did it.

EDIT: I just went back to read that horror story, my wife did get the blame but my 30 year old son was actually driving my Tahoe and my wife was his co pilot on that voyage. She was the one that would not allow him to move forward with the fawn there.   He would have moved forward. Probably why I did the name switch at the time.
