I wanted to put together a thread with the story behind my boat. It’s a 1984 2001 with a factory high output 454. The original owner added late 80s SN graphics and “Super Beast” graphics above the swim platform.

Last summer I found out I had lake rights to the private lake next to me, so after skimming market place I ended up with this boat one week later. I bought the boat off the second owner, who owned the boat on Crystal lake in CT since the late 1980s.

The shifter wasn’t working, the neutral pin was frozen. I rebuilt the shifter and went through the motor, tuning it up and adding a marine distributor. It turns out my friends dad on my lake used to ski behind this boat in the 1980s. I met Keno and Gottaski along the way on here and they were a huge help with some troubleshooting. It also turns out Gottaski used to ski behind this boat in the 1980s and put me in touch with the original owner.

I happened to run into Gottaski on Webster lake, he recognized the super beast graphics and flagged me down. After this I met the original owner on the other side of Webster lake, I let him take it for a rip, for the first time in 30 years it ran just like he remembered it. He told me this boat was special ordered with this motor, only because he knew someone, the average person off the street couldn’t order a 2001 with the 454 HO. He remembered a bunch of intricate details about the boat and said someone he knew spotted it on Crystal lake. He also remembered my friends dad that used to ski behind the boat.

I’ve been going through the boat the last few weekends, getting ready to quarantine on the lake.

Very Cool Boat thanks for sharing.
As anyone who plays with engines knows, There is no replacement for Displacement!
Big engines rock!   Looking forward to your GPS mile per hour numbers, I bet they are mid 50's.

Nice Mav
Thanks for filling in the blanks and gaps for everyone

One can get to know the original owner here,

Like the video says"one tough dude" that Lenny

And at least you got Lenny's input that the boat ran "just like he remembered it" so maybe some of your issues are just indication issues and nothing else.

Barefooting behind a 2001 will toughen one up, no doubt about that lol.

We were discussing Lenny this winter after those videos made the rounds on IG. Didn’t realize he was from Webster or had owned this boat.
