I have had an 89’ SN 2001 (w/ PCM 351) for about 1 1/2 years now and the oil pressure gauge is usually between 70 - +80
and sometimes pegs out over 80. Engine runs great. What should the oil pressure be? I plan to check by putting a gauge in place of the sending unit (as suggested on some of the forum threads) and will check the operations of the gauge by removing the wire from the sending unit. Anything else I should check to determine if the reading is accurate and if it is and it’s indeed high, what are likely causes to check and repair? Thanks so much.

The sending unit and/or gauge may be faulty.  I would expect to see 25-30 psi at idle and 40+ psi at speed.  Verification with a mechanical gauge is a good plan.

Check with the mechanical like you planned.  Best to start with good info.
If it really is 70+ I still would not worry.  That is much better than having 10psi at idle.
