Hi there, I am looking to get an early Mustang to go water skiing with. I have never been in one or rode behind one. I am wondering if a 60's hull/ski boat is about the same as a 70's? Are the wakes comparable? Are the Hull's sturdier in the 70's? Is their that much difference water skiing behind a 66 model vs a mid 70's? I really like the looks of the 60's but I love solemn skiing.
Thank You

Welcome. So I was looking to get a vintage classic boat to restore and show as a hobby
I just happen to run across a first gen ski nautique with a Chrysler. Fit the bill But if a 72-76 came up I would be owning that too Both super cool looking and nostalgic from my childhood So late 60’s or early 70’s have the look Check your stringers |

Allen,
For skiing, between a 60's and 70's hull, personably I'd be looking more at a second generation 70's. The 60's hulls were still riding bow high so their wakes were larger. In the 70's the hulls were starting to be more refined for skiing and run fairly level with the water producing less wake.

I have one disassembled, and have most of the parts.

The later '70's boats have mufflers for a quieter experience. Sounds like that might be important to you.

You might want to try newer models before you buy. A newer one won't be much more expensive ( a old one worth buying would have been restored) & will have more room, better wake, easier to get parts. If you get 1993 or newer it will never have a rot problem.
