Maharajah ski

Last weekend I was up north and going through some stuff in the basement. I ran into my old O'brien as well as the earlier Joe Cash I learned on. I used the junior version because the regular Joe Cash was too big for my skinny a**!!

I remembered this thread about the "good old days" of skis and had to get a picture.

I ski on a Connelly Eclipse. It's only slightly larger but rides and carves great. I'm 215lbs,ride a 72' and ski behind my 90hp outboard. If you can pick up one of those, you won't be sorry.

Sorry to here that you lost the ski. One benefit with my low weight was that I skied on a short ski. That O'brien is a 64" that no one else could ski on so no one ever borrowed it!

I've had my Maherajah long board (recreational version of the speed ski) for several seasons now. It is absolutely a blast to ski on. Take the boat up to about 40+ mph and ride it on a 150' line. Great for those rough days. The ski itself is a work of art. The side cut must be 1.5" thick. Bob is great to work with, too. He answers his phone, takes the orders, and makes the ski for you. As mentioned above, they don't come up for sale used too often. I know I have no desire to sell mine.

Thanks, John. I've been reading over here for a while, but I guess everyone has to have that first post at some point. I have to remind myself of Mr. Miller's wise words every now and then.

Warren Miller is the guy who has been producing and, most importantly, narrating those great snow ski movies for the last 50 or so years. A couple of years ago (I think the movie was "Impact," he did about a 5 minute segment on Gordon Rauthbaum's (sp) Ski Paradise in Acapulco.

Got my 65" comp X-2 in 1978 after my Lake Region Tournament burned up in a house fire. Skied on that until 7 years ago. Not good under my 215lbs. I thought a shorter ski was better until I got my 72" Connelly Eclipse. I'll never let go of that Comp X-2. I also have the EP Super-1. There's a nice EP Comp-1 and an Obrien Comp in our equipment shed collecting dust.

Hey that's awesome Munday. Looking forward to seeing some pics of you riding that bad boy. If you really want to put that Ski through it's paces, come on out to CA and we'll hook you up with 32 foot offshore, 1000 HP, 200 feet of ski line, a helmet and a protective suit. If you're game, that ski will handle it.

I just put new bindings on my Father's 1961 Maha two weeks ago. Plan to hang it on the wall in my office.

65 is pretty fast.    Even at 65 mph, you might want to think about a rope longer than 75 feet. BKH

When I got my longboard from Bob Maher, it had instructions on riding it that may or may not be helpful. I'm paraphrasing, but I still have the laminated note from him in the garage under the ski rack.

Basically, when getting up, you're going to drag a little longer. Keep the angle of the ski shallow (almost like you're sitting on the tail when you're in the water).

Ride it more upright than you would a comp ski. Carve your turns rather than burying the tail.

Funny, my wife and I notice that same ski when we were at Norton's in July. BKH
