Trying to change the fuel control cell filter on my new to me 98 SN. Have the replacement part in hand. Did the eletcrical disconnect and drained the canister. Can't get the canister to rotate (rotating left). Tried used 2 different types of oil filter removal wrenches. One that is a metal strap and one that is more like a large pair of pliers. Have applied enough force that the bracket holding the canister to the engine started to flex. Don't want to damage the canister.
Any suggestions on getting it to break free or a type removal tool to use? The non injected 92 that before this had a tight fuel filter, but I was alway able to get it to rotate. |

Disconnect the whole fcc and put it in a vice. You can then use a nail bar between the bolts to spin the cap. They sure can be tight.

It sounds like you're turning it the right way, but I'd probably read the link below and watch the video in the link just to make sure you're rotating it the right way
Then go for a big pipe wrench or a big chain wrench or like 2001SAN said, take it out of the boat for better working conditions

Thanks. Found an 18" strap wrench locally. And eventually got it loose.

I use a big-ass pipe wrench — 24” aluminum from HF. I wrap duct tape around the canister in an attempt to minimize the tooth marks from the pipe wrench. Works every time.
