Gents. On my 2005 196, the steering has always been a bit stiff. While putting some grease on the exposed part of the cable helped, it's still not as "free" as my 2003 206 or my buddy's 2005 196. Any suggestions? Could it be the cable? My boat only has 220 hours on it. Could the rudder need some work? (My rudder has a zerk fitting. I pushed some grease in there. Didn't make any difference.)

Another thing. I stopped by the local dealer here in Denver on Saturday. Every Nautique on the floor had very stiff steering. Is this a break in thing?

Thanks for you help.

Was not a break in issue on my 05' 206 which now has about 130hrs, from new the cable had very little resistance, still feels great. I have noticed the cables tighten up over time on previous boats, usually after at least 4 seasons. During layup I crank my wheel back and fourth several times at least once every couple weeks to help keep everything lubricated.

My guess would be the cable, you are still under warranty, what about asking the dealer to just replace the cable?

Im working on a boat currently and they jamb some of those cables and it puts a bind on them, maybe trace the cable, but thats a hell of a good idea what quinner does.... if you can every couple weeks turn that wheel freeing up any corrosion, i would imagine that down in the salt water its worse, were up in fresh water up here and you can definitely pick out the boats that seen saltwater in thier lifetime
