I could use some advice on what to do to fix a "stuck" tachometer.

Sitting in the garage, engine off of course, tach is reading 1100 rpm. Only been out once so far this year due to bad weather, other commitments etc., but it was the first time I noticed the problem. I think the tach was responding when the engine was running 1100+ rpm, but it stops at that point. Last year I think all was OK & I don't think I did anything (intentionally at least) that would have caused any problems.

Anyone interested in tutoring me in a Tachometer for Dummies 101 course? Any help would be appreciated.

I thought my tach was stuck once too. Then I realized the gauge shows the last RPM the engine was at when shutdown. After turning the key on it immediately drops to zero.

That didn't happen with mine. I made it out today, and it seems to read normal at operating speed, but now it is stuck at 1000 rpm. I didn't see it drop below 900 all day, regardless if I was at idle or engine off. Everything else seems OK - no problems. I have never noticed this before.

Anyone have any ideas...? I'm not going to loose any sleep over it, but it doesn't seem like this is normal.

Tim, if an electrical part lives ten years you are lucky, sounds as if it lost its calabration, would not trust it's high speed reading.
Time to drop a C note and buy a new unit, the OEM may still be available.Shoot me a pic I have a box w/50 or so tachs and speedo's. Bought out a dealership with some good stuff.............boat dr
