Hello all-
I have an '82 Ski Nautique that has been having some warm starting problems over the past few years, but never has it been as bad as it was the last two weekends. When warm, sometimes the boat will not turn over at all, then if it sits for a 1/2 hour or so, it will start, but there is a delay from the time I turn the key to when the starter actually cranks. I make sure the throttle is perfectly upright, I'm sure the battery is good, and the ignition turns on. Last time it happened, my buddy said his '84 did the same thing and he took off the gray cover on the upper rear of the engine and arched the two posts near the red button (Is this the circuit breaker?, and the boat fired right up.

Where do I start?

Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like you may have a solenoid that is a little flakey.

Never forget the basics. Have your battery tested to make sure its condition is good. Also make sure all connections are clean and that your cables are in good shape. Do this before you start replacing any parts. To verify that your solenoid is bad, try bypassing it with a jumper cable (battery terminal to starter terminal). This may just save you a few bucks. Please post your results. Brian

Thanks very much guys. It will be some time before I can post the results since I won't be working on the boat for a few weeks (new baby coming this week).
