The volt meter on my 1994 SN sport reads 15-16 volts at all times (at idle or full throttle) is this too high, and if so what is the problem.
Thanks Dave |

Dave ,
Thats too high...but, it may not read the same as the real output from the alternator. Check the voltage with a voltage meter at the battery when the boat is running at idle...you should see between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. |

Yup, first check with a DVM, the gauges are notoriously unreliable.

Dave, if it reads that high with a DVM then you need a new alternator. The voltage regulator (internal) is not doing its job. But before you replace anything make sure all connections on the back of the alternator are tight. Brian

Tested at the battery with a DVM and it read 13.94 volts. I would have to say the gauge at the dash is way off. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
