Thinking about buying new on my transmission. Still running fine in my boat but something is making noise (not sure if it is the tranny). Anyway, if somebody wants to buy it for $200 (half of core value) I will transport it to fantastic finish marine for free. If it is determined that it is junk, all of you money back.

Doc is referring to this thread about the Velvet Drive. Eric values the cores at $100. Where does your $200/$400 figure come from?

You mean this thread?

Yeah I get it, but if some guy has a junk tranny and is on a budget I can save him $200 from a core price.

Core value is a tough issue, remember im a rebuilder so i try to buy cores as cheap as possible and limit Borg Warner purchases to $100.00 or even to $200.00 if it is a late style core (10-17-003 or 10-17-004) on the PCM40 and 40a you have to be careful because of water damage and the cost of rebuild parts, I in no way im trying to set the standard on core values, this is just what they are worth to me. I did buy one off of this site not to long ago and the description said just rebuilt with a new pump and all new parts anyways i tore it down and the front snap ring was missing and the forwar cylinder was pushed into the front cover and pushed the bearing into the pump. the trans ended up needing a pump, front cover, forward cylinder and a complete overhaul because of themetal floating inside, I have many spare parts, but if you would of been the guy that bought it you would of taken it up the keester. I am in no way complaining, just giving an example and in my eyes...a core is a core and they are only worth so much   Eric
