Is there any way to adjust the throttle / gear lever to stay in place when set at certain position ?, when I set my speed to let say 22mph the lever slowly goes back and slows the boat down.

Other than perfect pass, does the throttle linkage at the carburetor have a return spring? If so, try removing it...just make sure the throttle closes fully without the spring.
If the throttle does not close fully without a spring, then try adjusting the cable end to force the trottle closed while in neutral. |

If the cable gets bent, it can be harder to push and it can pull back by itself.

Well what ever you do, just don't remove the spring from the carb it's on for a reason. If your cable does break then the carb will throtle back to idle, without the spring it well stay open. Mine does the exact same thing yours does I try not to go that slow, if you give it a little more throtle it will stay. there is a tension device on the morse control you can try and tighten.

Excellent point. I am going to add a spring to my carb ASAP. BTW, it has never had since I have owned the boat, but it is NEVER too late to build in a little more safety. Thanks.

The most critical adjustment is: The trans. engauging before the thottle increases. TimD hit it on the head, if the throttle, or trans. cable are kinked, or, are arched in a constrictive raidi, it hinders the movement. Disconnect both cables. set the throttle in neutral. Notice where the cable ends are, according to the carb. attaching point, and the trans. attach. pt. It's elemntary, adjust accordingly!

It sounds to me like the friction on your throttle lever needs adjusting. My '97 throttle moves easy, too easy. A new boat has more friction to keep the throttle from moving. (I check out new ones at the boat shows every winter.)
Is there anyone out there that has adjusted the lever friction on a teleflex throttle? Can it be done, and if so, how? |
