My bilge has some oil and transmission fluid in it. I want to clean it really well so I don't dump oil in the lake when I turn on the bilge pump. Pulling the plug out-of-water doesn't get rid of it all. What's the best, non-toxic, way to clean the bilge?

Bilge cleaner and really hot water. Tow your boat around to slosh it around and then rinse it out of there. Don't let the water cool down.

I have good luck using Simple Green (bio-degradable and non-hazerdous)and a rag.
But then again my boat doesn't stay in the water. Give it a shot it may work for you to. |

An oily bilge is a frustrating issue to deal with! I recommend finding the source of the oil leak and repairing it.I've been battling this for a couple seasons now. Every couple weeks pour a half gallon of bilge cleaner down there and let is slosh around with whatever water is introduced. Before adding more, pump the water into a container and dispose of it properly. Disconnect the automatic bilge pump sensor if your boat is equipped with one.I disconnect the bilge pump hose inside and use it to pump the oily water into a container. Repeat the process and it should eventually clear up. Mine has!
Good luck!-Brad |

try a squirt of dawn dish liquid once in a while to maintain a clean bilge.so long as you dont have a major oil leak it works good for me

My 66 hs a very small rear main drip. I use an oil absorband pad from West marine. I cut it into 4 12X12 pieces and put it under the rear main. The absorbant grabs the oil and the water I pump out is clean

Double check but I do beleive that castrol's super clean is non-toxic and it works great, spray it on and rinse the oil away.
