Eric, Gregs got nothing to worry about. Great woodworkers have respect for each other as well as each others wives! Have you ever meet a great woodworker that isn't a gentleman? Think about it!!

Greg,

Looks really good man, and it appears your heading down the home stretch. How about the bilge area, will you be finishing with Gel Coat? Looking forward to seeing that Big Block back in there.

Great Work!

Thanks Chris. I am almost done, but I'm hampered by poor materials calculating...the foam really. I did pretty well ordering the glass and the goop.

I can't wait to get the pumpkin in there either! I did want to use gel in the bilge, but I don't think it likes to go over epoxy. I have a can of white bilgekote for now.

HAha, Just wait til you get to know me, That will wear off..

Ps. Greg, I haven't seen one of these projects yet that doesn't require more than you accounted for at the start. I remember Bill(skibum) had a time with that too but it's related to the quality of work and not cutting corners.

I'm working on the thin spot on the outside of the keel today and have a question...

Will leaving my trailer tires 3/4 flat damage them? They are steel belted radials, load rating C.
Thanks

Also, as I understand it. I need to use a polyester base filler to fix the keel; because I want to go back over with gelkote?

Thanks again!

Greg, Don't you have a compressor to fill them up? You'll be ok as long as you don't take it down the interstate that way.

I have 3 compressors...1 from Amy?!!?   LOL

I asked because I let a good bit of air out in order to remove the front bunks so I could get to the mess therein...and wow is it a mess. I'm wet sanding it to smooth it out a little and to bring back the Correct color. Then I was planning to get a small kit from Minicraft to seal it in.

I was wrong! After going through a couple of cans of elbow grease, I was reminded of something 87BFN Owner said a while back. It looks like 95% of the scratches/rub damage is from the front bunks. I recarpeted them when I got the boat, but maybe a keel roller is the better fix.

Thanks Nate, and goop is redneck tech!

Really, goop is the first word that came to mind when I started using it; especially the 1 cup I forgot to put hardener in!   LOL

Greg,

I was thinking of using a roller, then decided a new trailer. A friend of mine got me a great deal a new Eagle. I compared completely reworking my original and the price a of the new one. The new one was cheaper. But now I have to figure out what to do with the old one.

I found it when I cleaned out my cups the next morning...1 was sticky! It must have been 1 of the last of a few small batches that I made the night before because it was easy to find.

It is easy to lose count...phone rings, Amy calls dinner, etc. My solution was to make a reference cup.

I'd like to add a roller on the rear of the front bunk...with a cam lever to drop it after the boat is loaded.

I wonder what others have done with this floor support. It fits well enough, but this part was loose on both of my boats. My concern is water getting into the stringers.

This is coming up because I'm about to glass the removable floor. It wasn't glassed before so it will be stronger by a little bit...maybe strong enough to leave that support out?

Greg, That support sure looks like one of CC's engineering afterthoughts!! Is it aluminum channel? Was it lagged into the stringers?. I'd be tempted to glass in a couple vertical plywood webs on the bottom side of the floor ply. Wide and tall enough to sit on the inside stringers but short enough to clear the exhaust hose. You are going to glass in the center floor section and make it non removable?

Before...and I didn't get a profile pic, but you can probably see the amount of curve missing.

After some reconstruction. I have some 'warm grey' coming from minicraft(part # ET908). What grit should I get to for gel prep? The blue(not in these pics) is called 'midwatch blue' and is part # AT1367 for anyone interested, but I won't get that far till winter.

My '79 had 1 like it, it is aluminum channel, and does lag into the stringers. The lags are the part I don't like...and that its design puts a lot of leverage on the bolts.

The exhaust hose sits on the inside stringers...not much room left. And would that be original?!!?

No, that needs to be accessable from my experience.
