I've purchased new drum brake backing plates as what are currently on the trailer have seen better days. I have always used copper based grease to lube the various pivot points on the backing plate inside the brake drum; should I use a standard copper based grease here or are there marine alternatives that I should consider. Alternatively does it go together with no grease at all? The trailer will see fresh water only.

you really don't need to lube the backing plate any, If you want to hit the 4-6 pads with a little litheum grease go ahead.

thanks 79nautique, that's one less job then! All I've got to do now is figure out how to slacken the damn brake unions on the slave cylinders. You can't get non metric ones in(not very sunny, and bloody cold) Scotland that fit - the unthreaded portion is too long..... so I need to remove them without rounding...
