I don't know about you, but I always get a little queasy boating in a new lake, especially when it has a slalom course which is typically located quite close to shore. The solution, the stylish, highly affordable, easy to install, Humminbird HDR 600 in-dash depthsounder.

Do you actually mount something on the outside of the hull? or is it just on the inside?

Everthing mounts on the inside of the hull - and with no holes. It's really a nice system.

Merry Christmas to all....... I installed a Hummingbird Depth finder in my 88'SN a couple of years ago for the same reason keith has. I made a bracket to install the guage so as it is right above my right knee just under the dash. that way I didn't have to remove any exsisting gauge or find a place to drill a hole for the new one. Used one the accessory switches for the power up and expoxied the transducer just aft of the drain plug under the oil pan. Figured less water turbulance at this location. This setup has worked like a charm for me especially when the water levels change at the lake I board at. Anything less than 4 ft and I'm doing a U-turn. Just my 2 cents worth for anyone who has given thought to installing in their Nautique. Again no problems to date and I even bought mine on e-bay. Happy New Year Gang !!!!

I have a uniden deep sounder that is still in the box waiting for installation. I plan to install the display unit where the hour meter is currently located. My hour meter and tach both broke within a week or two of each other, so I replace the tach with a unit that has the hour meter in the bottom of the tach and thus the seperate hour meter would be redundant. Now I have room for the depth sounder without drilling an extra hole.

I too have the same unit. I had it installed when I dropped if my baby off for winterizing. (This is the fist boat I've owned and I didn't want to risk messing up the winterization my first winter. I'm hoping to meet some boat guys this comming season that will be willing to help me learn how to winterize it properly). I am anxiously awaiting take her out of mothballs and trying her out, but I've had friends that have run agroun or hit stump yards at speed and ruined their boats so I thought "an ounce of prevention".

Just bought the Acme 540 and the Humminbird 600 for my 1973 CC Mustang. The Acme 540 made my old prop look like it should be hanging in an antique shop. I had to get to the lake yesterday to test them out.

As Keith's article says...WOW. I couldn't be happier with both. Huge difference in acceleration. It totally throws your head back between 10-30 miles an hour. It is awesome. It definitely feels like much more horsepower. This was definitely the place to put money in the boat. It is absolutely impressive.

The depth finder worked great. Vince at SKIDIM gave me a tip of setting it on a ziplock bag full of water to test location.

I agree, the Hummingbird is an excellent unit I am a marine electronic repair technician for west marine , I service everything from Radars,GPS, VHF,EPIRB's and Depth sounders . There is also a nice one made by Faria , I just installed one of those on my 1974 San Juan and I have the Hummingbird on my 1988 Nautique , I took out the clock and put the depth sounder in that space .

Any know about the Hummingbird temp gauge from the 99 era Air's? I have one with a transducer mounted on the transom, is there a humminbird unit that does both temp and depth? Can I use the existing transducer for the depth finder? I am hoping to not have to remove the temp. gauge, or being able to have a "combo" unit.

I have a question? How do you mount the hum 600. I just got mine today and know where i am going to put it. next to my water inlet valve but how do you mount it. Anyone have any pics on what it looks like mounted it would really help thanks from hawaii.

kilowake66, I just purchased a Hum 600 for my 1966 Mustang. In the box, there was a 2 part epoxy packet and instructions on it's use. In reading the instructions, they stated that the epoxy was a special slow cure type and not to use normal 2 part epoxy that can be purchased at local hardware/home centers. It appears that the slow cure is need to insure that all the air bubbles get pushed out, which will interfere with the transducer pickup unit.

I hope to install it as soon as I get the boat out of storage in mid April. From looking at the images in Keith's article, I was also unable to identify the actual transducer unit. I was going to ask Keith if he could post a better/additional image. From Keith's article and his 'computized red line' on the image, I can only assume that if the water pickup is on the startboard side of boat, you should install the transducer pickup unit on the opposite (port) side but at the same distance from the keel and the bow as the water pickup.

I am looking forward to using the depthfinder this season (my second ever boating season), as the lake I boat on is fairly shallow. At least 2 times last year, the boat got too close to different shallow areas, and I could feel the prop churning up the lank sand/mud.

I also have the Hum 600.
but cant get it set right..I have set in the water for a few hours trying to get it right,, sometime it reads good...When I first turn the motor on,,,,It reads 4.5 0r 4.3,,,back and fourth....the depth at the bottom right,stays lit and the shallow on the left blinks..,,and when I try to set the depth,it only will go to 99....Any info on this.......thanks

I installed one of these on my '83 just below the hour meter. Installation was painless and complete in less than 90 minutes. Unit works well but the alarm can be a pain during launching..........

Ok, I'm a newby, got a depth finder on my SV-211, however, it is located under the shift knob, and doesn't do me any good. any other ideas where to put it?

Keith, I just installed the Hummingbird 600 this weekend. Worked like a top. I even removed the in dash clock and didn't have to drill at all. You had a great reccomendation. Just a reminder to others: be sure and duck tape the transducer and make a couple trial runs before securing with epoxy..

I have one of those Depth finder but I am yet to install it I was not sure how much time it takes and the way I would like it, no wires hanging out any where, I like it nice and clean and I am not sure I could do that. Has anyone run the wires down the back of the dash into the batt. box into the motor box.

The above link seems to take you to a review of the Cipa mirror. Not the Depth sounder.
