Is there a BIG advantage to using a 4 blade prop?

I have read that you lose a bit on the top end, but the boat pulls out of the hole better and is easier to control.

Just thought I would see if anyone has made the change.

I have a acme 13x12 4 blade on my 78. I like it a lot, been running it since 2002. It may not be as fast as a 3 blade, but it sure pulls well.

No, the "4-blades are superior" mindset is 10-15 years old. Today's modern 3-blades rival the 4's in blade surface area, so they come out of the hole just as well and are usually a bit faster up top. On a lighter 16-17' boat, even the "old-school" non-CNC 3-blades like the Federals and OJ's perform very well.

The prop I want is 13/16...is that too big?

hope you don't run your prop like that, I hope it's just slid on for the picture, otherwise something is majorly wrong.

The newer three blades are the way to go. the lone exception is if the majority of boat usage is for boarding with a ton of weight, then a four blade helps but can be done just as easy with the three blade too.


Tell us you intended usage for the boat, cruise, ski, board or a combination of that.

What are the current WOT rpm and GPS speeds.

it looks like the orginal prop 13 x 13 a lot use the ACME 540 as a replacement, but it all depends.

The pic is just to see the writing on the prop...the nut and pin are off.

I'm not a wakeboarder (bad knees), i like to ski and would like to try surfing...mostly just a fun boat...

Oh, and I do like to go fast!!!

I have NO idea what those mean...sorry guys.

I'm planning on bringing the boat to the Midwest Reunion and that will be the first time on the water since I bought it on 5/1 (it has been in the shop for the last 2 months-engine/restored/updated), so maybe some of you guys can give me some ideas.

wide open throttle WOT,

do you have the cam spec's for the rebuild?, did you install an aluminum intake, use the stock heads? what updates where done?

just get to GL and I'm sure there will be some extra props around to try so you know what you'll want to use.

The motor was a just a tune up and new carb.

I KNOW you guys think I must be an idiot...I just dont know much about the details of the boat....sorry.

Yes it would be too steep of a pitch unless there are lots of engine mods. The prop in your picture may even be too steep. It looks like it's been re pitched to 14". The WOT RPM will give you a direction to head.
