If you were flushing you motor and the water was turned off inadvertently. How long do you think it could run at idle speed without any damage? This happened to me during winterization. I looked at the boat and I saw what looked to be steam comming from the exaust. I immediatly shut it down and noticed the water had been turned off. The boat is in storage now and I keep thinking gosh I hope that motor did not get damaged. Its possible it ran maybe 7 minutes like that.

shouldnt be a problem, not alot of heat is generated at idle, but i surely would pull the impeller and change it.
