So in your perfect world everyone could make a set amount and everything above that could go to the government.

So then I work 40 hr week @ 25.00 per hr because if I work any more I give it to the government. No need to try and make $45.00 per hr.

In fact if I can get by with 20 hrs the government will subsidize the other $500.

Eventually everyone will figure this out and work 20 hrs.

This sounds like a real good plan.

My leg is getting warm and wet. Are you trying to tell me it's raining?

Aside from that have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Wonder how long they would work for this benefit ???

I quit at 50% when it was all added up. I am not going to work for 10-12hrs a day and give 50% of what I earn to those like my son that only work when the handouts stop. I will do with less and by happier.
People have different limits.

EDIT: Do not loose site that it is the Same Dollar that is being taxed with each of the taxes.

And if you have any money when you die, the Govt takes another big chunk in Inheritance taxes. The family you worked so hard for all your life ends up getting about 20 cents on the dollar for your efforts.
No thank you....

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

•The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
•The fifth would pay $1.
•The sixth would pay $3.
•The seventh would pay $7.
•The eighth would pay $12.
•The ninth would pay $18.
•The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers", he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20". Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?"

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

•The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
•The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
•The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
•The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
•The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
•The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, "but he got $10!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!" "That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the
atmosphere is alot more frendly.

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on)

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

For those that really want to know how much you pay in Taxes in a given year can do what the wife and I did.
Open an account and for every tax you pay, no matter how small, deposit that ammount into the account. Banks do not charge for depositing money. Online Banking makes this very easy to do. Weekly worked for us.
You start on Jan 1st and do this until Dec 31st.
You have to adjust when you do your taxes in April the following year, or earlier for those that get refunds.
But when you complete the year, you have an actual number to subtract from you earned income to see your true Taxes paid.

Social security, it cuts off at 107k of income, so if you score 10 mil a year you pay on 107k. you pay into social security, but its broke because they borrowed from it and cant pay it back.....you guys should be pissed off about that, not an inheritance tax.....you wanna go on the best fastest ride at the fair, its gonna cost you some tickets, same as being a citizen of this country, it really sounds like you guys want everything for free but dont want to pay into it...imho

What ride do I get... I used to have to buy the ticket and watch everyone else ride.
My grandson only gets to ride after everyone else gets finished. I have never said I would not pay my way... I just don't want to be told to pay all the other riders while my grandson has to watch cause there is not enough for his ticket.

You tell your grandson he can ride only if you have anything left for him. Mine is riding now.....

we take care of our poor and you hate it, all these hand outs, but you know what its a helluva lot better than taking care of the rich bstds in this country, i rather hand a crackhead 20.00 bucks to get a rock and a cup of coffee, than hand or surrender my money to them. and you dont blink an eye when some steals your money right out of your account, who is responsible for that the poor guy?
I really wasnt bull***************ting about the tax rate in 59, lets say you made 200 million this year after all done and said, you will still clear 16 million, in todays times not bad scratch, or if you took that surplus and re-invested back into your company, new technology, employ more people it wouldnt be taxable....thats how you grow and prosper. you know how many politicians to are businessmen? the ones that went and bought and broke up profitble companies and sold them off.
at the end of the day i dont see the current administration doing this, sure you can cherrypick, frank, pelosi, obama. but, because its not business as usual and they get the blame...face it he was left with a negative checkbook, 2 wars, a fcn housing crises, heathcare spinning out of control.....in my book thats known as a scapegoat. I personally dont agree or even like the guy, but, as the days go by, I have a tendency to figure out what happened

Eric, I do not worry about the rich. They take care of themselves and I take care of myself. Everything that I have entered above speaks to me and my family and what we do. I feel that I was taxed too much for what is needed.... That is needed and not wanted... Fix the system and I will play again.

I do not hate the poor but I do dislike those that use it to take from the taxpayer and have no plans of ever earning a living to pay into the system.

Check out Food Stamps - a family of 2 get $465 per month in NC. Wife says that is more than she spends for the 2 of us. My wife and I have multiple rental properties and a condo at the beach and a small house on the lake as well as our home. All we have to do to get Food Stamps is get our bank accounts down below $5000. They do not care about the property you own or your long term investments. It always cost more to maintain rental property than you collect.... I put some cash under the mattress and we are in. I actually filled out the paper work for a joke and it came back qualified. We are still discussing if we take it or not. Wife is concerned what others will say.

Check out Unemployment, 99 weeks. Give me a break. I actually qualify in July and plan on filing. I have no plans of ever going back to work but I can get some of my money back that I payed in by playing the game. My grandson can use the money for college.

What a joke, but it is a way for me to put more money in the bank for later. I just have to be carefull how it affects my Food Stamps.

Until the system is fixed, I am done. Consider me a taker from the system from this point forward. But I want it fixed as much as the next Tax Payer.... If you do not like what I do, stop me... I support your efforts.

Thank you for your contribution to my grandsons college fund. His ticket to ride.....

Eric I have documented it before, the top 10% pay 60% percent of the taxes, the bottom 40% (and climbing) receive checks. Look at what we are rewarding? Because that is what we will get more of. Have you ever thought of blaming your investment guy instead of Bush? Bush did not tear your money from your hands and force you to invest. My investments have been stable for the last 4 years, I am not making much, but I did not loose much either. My guy minimized the down side. It does not look as good as it did in the 80's and 90's but that was an artificial government created bubble that I am comparing to.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

your talking about volume, lets be educated and start talking percentages. the fcn average income in this country is 26k, even as little as 10 percent creates a heavy burden on that family..buffet paid 17% on lets say 30 billion, his secreatary paid a bigger percentage and she probably makes 22k. the guy outright says the rich do not pay enough in taxes. big corporations like GE probably recieved a refund, you and me are not making these laws, they are because it benefits them,
Critter if what your doing is true, you are part of the problem and not the solution, yes the government is creating an incentive for you not to work because there is no work, but too, they create incentives for top income earners to pay 17% on 30 billion, he should be paying the 35% tax rate on that income, not poor sally bustin 22k a year

tou want fair tax, then go 35% across the board, corp taxes, individuals, be fair about it
I cant even fathom how many people could be employed at 26k a year and divided by 30 billion, one mans salary, logically those ones divided would fall into the tax bracket of buffets secretary

Merry Christmas Eric and others.....

I do not think it to be a problem for me to want some of my overpaid taxes back. Yes, I do think I overpaid for many years.

Good of you to help the family for christmas.

Now, what if he were the Govt and he comes back next week for another Thousand. You ask what he did with the 1st thousand. He used 300 for his families Christmas, 400 he gave to 10 other families that told him they could use it, and 300 he invested in Kodak stock cause he felt it would be a good deal. It tanked.
He repeats the same use for the 2nd, 3rd and more thousand that you give him.
How long before you offer him only the 300 he used for his families need and you will help the needy you choose and invest should you feel that need?

Took me about 30 years.....

Again, Merry Christmas
