As I'm working on my 63 ski nautique, I was wondering if I should add a skeg. I plan to have the motor bored out and I hope to go from 215 to 230 or 240 HP. The boat has one skeg a mid-ships. With increased HP, should I worry about stability/capsizing? Would adding a skeg help? Should I leave the HP at 215? How much trouble is it to add a skeg?

Thanks!

Hey Glassi,
I have a 69 ski nautique (about 17'), that came with one original akeg. The previous owner added an additional skeg forward of the orignal, about 30".
I don't know how it handled before, but I really like how it handles now--straight and true through a slalom course, and tight through corners. My 318 Chrysler is rated at 220 HP.
