I've heard it's best to run trailer tires at max pressure. In the case of my single axle, that's at 65 psi. Can anybody confirm or dispute this? Thanks

Back the pressure back about 5 psi or more. If the load isn't maxed out then you really don't need the extra pressure (rough ride) and as the trailer rolls down the road the tire will heat up a little and the pressure will increase some as will. Around 50 psi is where I keep mine.

Ryan,
I've read max pressure Cold. Different than reading while the tires are hot. 65psi sounds high to me, but it depends upon the tires you're using. I think mine are only 35 but I have a tandem. Agree they do bounce more with more pressure in the tires. BKH |

I find running at rated pressure makes the trailer not so mushy side to side, especially at turnpike speeds. Underinflation can cause tires to heat up due to the extra resistance, making it harder to pull (even though you may not feel it). As far as ride, I find not a huge difference since the weight is there and the springs take it all.
