Just picked up a Casad straight boom (yellow cables), but it won't work on my 94 Sport Nautique because the cables are too short. Anyone have any experience obtaining and installing some longer cables for one of these older models? Not sure who to call since Casad is long since defunct.

Thanks,

Brian

Brian,
Measure how much longer the cables need to be and go into your local Home Depot with the old cable so the associate knows what the ends look like. We stock vinyl coved cable in various diameters as well as the nicopress sleeves. The associate will need to remove the vinyl where the sleeves go and will then crimp the sleeves on with the nicopress tool.

Brian,
I was curious about how many HD's were around you. I googled it and there are 19 in the greater Orlando area!! You certainly have plenty to choose from!!

Thanks Pete, I'll try and put it back on this week and take some measurements.

I don't think we have quite as many HDs as Atlanta, but there's certainly no shortage of them around here!

Or just make an extension out of 1/4" cable.

I did this when John still had the 80. It was about 6" long. Two aluminum crimp ferrules and two SS thimbles. You're good to go.
Or you could just get some 5/16" SS Quick Links. I used them when I redid my boom cables. I used two of them on the outer cable and one on the inner cable to get enough length.
I used them again when I redid my extended pylon cables.

This pic shows the quick links in the plastic tubing on the boom cables. Then again on the extended pylon cables before I covered them up with the padded tube.

When people run down to the lake to see what's making that noise, you've succeeded.

OOP's.
Now that I look at it again, I used four quick links on the outer boom cable (two on each end of the turnbuckle) and two on the inner one (one on each end of the turnbuckle).
Sorry about that. Same result none the less.

Professor, your working at Home Depot now? That's cool, finally a rep that knows something. Oh and whatever Eddie did on his rigging will be fine. Those boys play hard in Winterhaven and his boat is flawless.

Great info, thanks guys.

I'm going to try and get something made up this week, my nieces are coming down from MA to visit and I'd like to have this thing ready to use.

I've acquired a few booms with a foot or so of quick links at the bow like Eddie mentions. Not ideal IMO but works just fine.
