Last summer I bought my first boat ever a 1982 2001. I am also curious about replacing the rear lifting ring with a pop-up ski pylon (See link below) is this feasible? Good idea or bad idea? Mostly for when I have to pull tubers 😤 Appreciate the feedback and ideas!

Without permanent removal of the gas tank I don't think you'll have 6" of the required clearance you'd need. That said, even if you did you'd have to figure out how to reinforce the deck, When they moved the pylon on the v drive boats from the traditional place to between the back seat and the engine there was a aluminum frame work connecting it to the engine cradle too. There is a spool in the very back, that you can see in this pic, but I think the decal says it's just for skiers

A work around for your situation is run the rope thru the lift ring to the pylon.
