Ive been doing research on buying a slalom course for the lake I'm at. Does anyone have a recommendation on where/who sells the best course? I think semi portable "non" permanent would be better for my pitch to conservation.. Thank!

Ezslalom makes a great portable course and provides excellent service after the sale Ed the owner is a slalom skier himself and will walk you through any issues that yo may encounter. Also be aware that many government agencies get riled about putting a course on a public lake. We ran into so much hassle getting a permit from Duke Power on my lake that I chose to join a private lake.

thanks thats one of the sites I have been looking at. I'm in the process now of getting "permission". I have been in the process since September of last year though and had an adult temper tantrum when the woman actually answered the phone today and then made it blatantly clear that she never read my written request.. I informed her either way I will be setting a course up, id just prefer to have permits.

Many times you can set up a portable course on a public lake as long as you do it in a non busy time and promptly remove it. We had an issue with a lakefront owner who did not like the boat traffic near her home. Now she is dealing with wake surf boats that are really rocking her world during peak times (Fri-Sun).
It all depends on your specific situation but it's really hard to be serious about slalom on a public lake if you're running the course. Some yahoo will come through and take out a few balls, snag your mainline, etc. Good luck!

Amen. I spent many an evening chasing waverunners out of the course, only to have them look at you like your the a-hole.

DV, where do you ski? I am down in greenwood and ski a good bit at Jeff Rodgers lake. My daughter goes to Clemson and skis with the club there. If you are ever down this way let me know.

We had a course and used it 100% on public water. The officials told us as long as we took it down when we left and allowed anyone to use it we were legal.
We had a portable and it was too time consuming to put up and take down for a weekend of skiing. We would camp right there where we had the course set up.
We got smarter.   Set up the course and used it to locate anchors that we set for each ball location.   We "might" have made our anchors out of concrete, about 100 lbs each.
Then we put floats on each anchor that floated about 3 feet under the surface.
These each had quick connects on them which we would hook the balls to.
After doing this we could set up in about 45 minutes and tear down in about the same.
It did not stop yahoo's from cutting in and taking out some of our balls but this worked for us and once the cable is out we never had another tangle issue.
When we were still using the portable course we had issues keeping it set. It took a lot of weight at either in to keep the course tight. We even hammered stakes deep into the bottom, 6 foot if I remember right and it still would work loose we had to fight a current and slight variations in water level making it a challenge.
The floats were hard to spot if you did not know where to look so we never had any of those stolen. They have to be deep enough to never get hit by a boat going by when the course is down.   We had a lot of fun with that course.

I suspect it would vary state to state but in general, is it true anyone can use a course that's placed on a public lake? We have a course a couple lakes over from me that the owner chases people away who try to use it.

I will only deal with Ed Obermier, EZ Ed with EZ slalom. The guy really helps you, accommodating etc. Permitted courses are next impossible, save your time and put that time into taking a portable in and out. My attitude is always act dumb, and easier to ask for forgiveness rather permission.

I felt the same way about playing dumb, but I'd like to form a legit ski club and was hoping to get all the appropriate permits. It sounds like after speaking the the conservation employeee yesterday that hey will allow with conditions but I politely advised her that the course was going in either way as they would have to be out there at 630 in the morning to stop me. I'll call ed today and talk further about this. Didn't find anything on ski it again.

Hey Steve, I live on Lake Keowee but Duke Power doesn't want any slalom courses on their lake. The club I belong to leases a farm pond over in Pickens County, we have a 200 6L on site. We have a 8 ball slalom course because it's a short setup. Works out great after a couple of passes through the course it becomes second nature. I don't even free ski anymore on Keowee. The surfers and wake boarders won the battle.

I knew of 3 public courses in California and the same was true at all of them.   If it was open you could ski it. If a Class was in session you could not.
Lake Shasta had one, Lake Oroville had one. We had ours in the River.
