If I have researched correctly, both standard & reverse distributors rotate in the same direction. The only difference is the pitch on the drive gear. I have a reverse rotation 351w and need to replace the dizzy & I have a new old stock standard rotation marine Prestolite distributor just setting around. My question is can I just swap the drive gear with a RR gear and it work in my RR engine?

Jason,
Yes, just swap the gears. If both are Prestolite's, then the gear bores will be the same so no machining is needed.

Don't be too fast to say "yes" The distributors that I have worked on (gear swaps) are not always just a quick swap of gears. It appears that manufacturers don't have precision jigs to drill the cross holes in the shafts and gears. You may need to redrill the hole AFTER you make sure that the gear is on the shaft at the correct dimension from the mounting face of the dizzy'

Dimension from Ford Racing is :    4.031---4.038

That dimension is from the dizzy mounting face to the oil pump thrust face with the slack pulled OUT
