Does anyone know which direction CC had the the throttle lever pointing with the engine at idle? I'd like to make it "original." At idle, should it point at 6 'o'clock, -- 9 o'clock, -- 10 o'clock? -=Grant=-

I've known the boat (and its previous owner) since 1953 -- and have now owned it since fall of 2016. Photos are available on my website, -- then click on 1950 Chris Craft. grantmaclaren.com BTW, 1) MacSkier is at the lake, ready to tow, and 2) one former Chris dealer says the idle position is at 10 o'clock. -=Grant=-

Grant, Is that 10:00 or 4:00? Depends how you look at it! BTW, throttle stroke is counterclockwise past 3:00 almost to 2:00. |

Thanks. Yes, it can be set to "increase" throttle in either rotation. Because I'm right-handed, I was thinking of setting the long lever at 2 o'clock and having it increase when turned clockwise. We,ll see. Right now, I don't have the "ball joints" for the thwartship rod, nor the carb connector. Chris -- I like the Caviler. |

That seems a little un-natural to me Grant. Mine is set to 4 idle and about 1 is full throttle. I think it would feel odd to pull down to go faster but to each his own. Also I didn't have any of the linkage when I put my throttle together so I attached a standard throttle cable to the lever at the bottom of the steering gearbox. had to get a little creative with attaching it but it works nice and smooth. You would just need to fabricate a cable clamp for each end. |

While waiting for the "ball joints" ordered for the 1/4" rods, I fixed the cooling water drain plug. The DPO had been using a wooden cork/plug.

To give the DPO the benefit of the doubt, I can say first hand that sometimes we make an emergency repair with the materials that are at hand, with the intention of fixing it right asap. The repair then works so well that you forget to fix it right and 5 years later when it fails, the next guy thinks you were being a hack, which really isn't the case.
