Thanks for any help. My 2008 Air Nautique will turn over but not crank. It was running fine but died like it ran out of fuel. I still had fuel. Changed the filters and it wouldn't crank. Disconnected the fuel return line and no fuel when trying to crank. Installed new HP pump and now lots of fuel and good pressure, checked it at the Schrader valve and it sprays fuel 7 feet. When it turns over it wont even hit a little bit. Is there something that needs to be reset or anything? Please Help

Another thing to consider - I once had an old Honda that came in not running. Previous guy had done a lot of cranking trying to start it. Once I got spark back it still didn't want to fire more than a little bumping. Turns out all that fuel had soaked out the oil from the rings and compression was terrible. Popped the plugs and added a little bit of oil to each cylinder and it came back to life.

All that to say be careful with loads of cranking. It can lower compression and contaminate oil and such.. If you've cranked a lot in this process you may want to change the oil once she runs for you again.

Do you have a compression gauge to test that?

I pick up that some here don't like using ether -- but have you given it a spritz of starting fluid to see if it fires with that?

Mine pre-dates this kind of thing but out of curiosity with lanyard removed will the boats turn over with the starter if so equipped?

Meh I'm as dumb as a sack of potatoes but get a lot done -- just experience!

Personally I'd try starting fluid to see if I got fire first and go from there.

Yes it will turn over with it removed. That's actually how its acting right now, turn over but no fire.

I did spray some starting fluid through the fame resistor and all I got was a big back fire type of sound

Kill switch - engine will turn over, start, and die after a few seconds. I'd definitely verify the kill switch is working with a meter to eliminate that possibility.

Compression - I've never experienced the washing and loss of compression you are describing. Not saying it can't happen, just think it's VERY unlikely to be the problem.

Easy way to check for spark is to remove a spark plug, re-attach the boot to it, and ground the outside metal part of the plug to the engine, you can just hold it against the block. Hold the plug with something that insulates you so you don't get belted with the spark, like a thick rag or rubber glove. Have someone else crank the engine and see if you see a thick, strong spark across the electrode. While doing this, be careful none of your clothes or body parts are near the belts and keep your face away from the spark plug hole as air/fuel will be forced out while you are cranking.

I'm not as familiar with that engine, I assume it's a PCM 343? Might be a breaker at the back of the engine, but if you are cranking and had fuel pressure doubt it's that. Check for spark and someone else will chime in with more engine specific knowledge.

That backfire is why I don't like starting fluid. Easy to do damage, no reason to ever need it.

The backfire makes me think you do have spark, but still check to be sure.

The fact that all you have done is change the HP pump and you have fuel pressure at the rail makes me wonder why the injection system isn't putting fuel to the cylinders, which is what I suspect is the problem. I don't know if there is a need to bleed air from the system or not. I'm really hoping someone with more knowledge of this engine will check in. Again, what engine is in your boat?

The engine cover hase "EX343" on it. Don't know if that tells you what engine it is or not.

Take a picture of the top of the engine and post it, or just tell us what it says on the engine intake cowl, it will I think be EX343 or ZR6. Also what exactly model boat do you have?

Excal has a distributor cap, change it and the rotor, known issue!!

With the ignition on and motor box open, pull the lanyard and then re-install, do you hear the fuel pumps cycling??

Another thought, check throttle potentiometer at the end of throttle cable. If the potentiometer falls completely closed in case of broken throttle cable or more common a cracked plastic potentiometer housing it'll keep motor from starting.
