Do you have the coupler that goes from the transmission to the prop shaft? My key is messed up and it looks like someone modified my coupler that slides onto the shaft so I'd like to find a good one to replace it with. I had my shaft come loose this past weekend and would like to avoid that in the future. Any pics of what you have?

Also, what style of throttle mechanism does it have? Mine has excessive play/slop and would like to replace it. Thanks.

Phillip,
The coupling to the prop shaft is a heat shrink interference fit. The coupling does NOT slide onto the shaft. Due to shafting diameter tolerances, it's common to bore the coupling to match the shaft creating the .000 to .- 0005 fit. It sounds like your boat has been run with misalignment fretting the shaft and coupling. You need a new shaft and coupling! Double taper ARE or General Propeller systems are the way to go since it eliminates the heating of the coupling to install it on the prop shaft.

Regarding the slop in your helm control, have you checked your connectors?

Why buy a new shaft when yours can be machined into a double taper???   About 1/2 the $$ for the same setup. I have converted numerous shafts.
Keep it as original as YOU want it

Duane,
I have a suspicion that Phillips shaft isn't in the greatest shape. Besides machining the taper, you'd probably end up straightening it too!

The shaft may not be the best, but I'd like to make it last through this season if possible. But someone modified my coupler to have 2 set bolts perpendicular to the keyway. I'll create a new thread so I don't hijack his.

The two set screws are only there as a back up for a fretted loose shaft and coupling. They are NOT for tightening the coupling to the shaft. The idea is they prevent the shaft and prop from sliding aft and hitting the rudder.
