Anyone know why a 3310-2 holley carb would be on my 1980 ski nautique . 351 engine. Do I rebuild this or replace with correct carb. New boat owner.

A quick search reveals a 3310-2 is a 750cfm 4150 Auto carb... not original and a safety hazard.

Best to replace with a marine 600cfm. QF makes a nice one if buying new.

Randy,
Considering the carb is auto, I suggest you look at other components the PO used that will put you in danger running the boat.

Or buy the 600CFM Holley Duane just posted in the parts for sale section. Saves you a few bucks and if it is coming from him you know it's good to go.

But, if you decide to go Quick Fuel route you will not be disappointed.

Like Pete said. Take a look at the fuel system/electrical system to make sure there are no other misused automotive parts lurking.

Or save a few hundred and buy Duane's that he just posted.

Note that I'm commissioned 😉

Maybe i'm mistaken in understanding your phrasing, but either way, auto carb has to go, for a multitude of reasons.

Post a picture or two under the hood, we can usually identify things out of place,
"There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worthwhile as messing around with boats...simply messing."

What he said ^^^

A proper marine carb is necessary either way. The automotive carburetor on your boat is a fire risk and also would most likely devoid you of any insurance compensation if there were a fire on the boat.

What other problems are you having?

Not sure about other problems until we get motor running. Not sure if motor will even run with new carb. Mechanic is going to clean old carb just too see if motor runs. If runs I will then buy correct carb. Does this make sense?

Yes, makes sense now. We had no idea of the previous running condition of the engine based on this thread. Good luck with and keep us posted.

Is your mechanic a marine guy or a car guy? Lots of times good car mechanics overlook the special requirements of marine engines. Best to keep in touch with everyone here on advice when getting this thing water ready.

He is a marine mechanic. Can fix or rebuild anything. Maybe get running morrow and post some pictures of boat. Will sell or giveaway wrong carb and purchase correct one.
