Hi all.
I just got a 62 classic. Can anyone tell me if I can swap out the y block for a 351 and use the same velvet drive?

Do your homework, you just can't walk in any where and buy 351 marine parts much easier. They have been out of production since the beginning of the century

Cool project
I recently did a complete rebuild of a 312 y-block.
Parts are around and available, right down to engine decals.
Some special attention to crank rotation/seals, but otherwise very straightforward.
And, they run pretty good, too.

Mike,
Where are you getting the idea that Y block parts aren't available? The boat is a classic so I suggest keeping it a classic!

From the year 1962. Lol but hearing that I'm wrong about that is awsome. I'm hoping to get all kinds of info. Like paint codes. I do really want to keep it origional as possible.

That also is good to know. Thank you. I got it in the fall. With just about enough time to get a heavy tarp and cover it be for the snow flew. So I really, haven't had a chance to do any real digging in it. Looking forward to that this spring. I figure its been setting for close to 20 years. First I'm gonna empty the tank and rebuild the carbs and throw in a new waterpump change the oil and points cap rotor plugs wires and new gass and see if I can, make her take a breath. Or two.

Take some time, read up on the many relevant posts here, and make a plan.
Bringing a motor out of long-term cold storage is a bit like delivering a baby.
