1000 hp?    I am assuming that was per cylinder. At least that is what our motor made. Actually more like 1250 per hole.
I'll let you and Pete haggle this one out..

Air cooled VW's and Porsche's always specified straight weights back in the day too. The average person didn't realize in addition to air cooling they were also oil cooled. The word back then was under extreme heat that the multi weight would break down back to it's base weight. Our Farmall tractor,if it got too cold out it would refuse to start with 10-30. Straight 10 it was fine. Oil has come a long way in 40 years, back a few years ago when I was crazy enough to put up with cold weather I found out that 10-30 was now ok. Today I don't care- it was 89

Gary, The old 36 hp VW barely had enough oil anyway. Did not have to worry about orange filters cause they did not have a place to put it

Duane,
Thanks for the link but I do have the manual.

Pete,
You are welcome, but the link was not intended for your use. I knew that you already were knowledgeable on the engine.

But Ross, a Wisconsin engine isn't made by PCM!!

FYI, Wisconsin does recommend multi weight oils per the manual.

I know what you mean Duane. When you only have 36 you need to know every one's name.

Those Nazi Road Oilers leaked so much oil you didn’t need a filter.
