Hello agiain!
So after all your help with my last issue with the transmission problem I yet again have another issue. Transmission runs great by the way! All thanks to you guys on here helping me out!! Greatly appreciate it! But my new issue that I have, is that when the boat gets warmed up or sits in the sun it will not stay running. It will fire up no problems with a little primping of the throttle. But after that the engine dies almost immediately. As soon as I open the engine housing and try starting it, the boat runs no problem. I was assuming it was the flame arrester needing cleaned, so I cleaned it, or the hose running to the fuel pump was getting a vapor lock but that is not the issue. So I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what the problem might be? I would assume that there my be an exhaust leak somewhere. Considering that when it has clean air and can breathe it has no issues. I have also tried running the blower any time I am running the boat and also 5 minutes before starting it. |

Your post title mentions "choke". Can you verify if the choke is open when the engine is warm? I don't recall the year/model of your boat and engine, so I'll assume a Ford small block Windsor 351 with a Holley 4160 carburetor. If so, the choke adjustment is very easy.
However, I'm a bit puzzled about how the engine runs when the cover is lifted up, but won't run when closed. My first thought is that the fresh air feed to the engine compartment is somehow blocked and the engine is starving for air. Perhaps you can get a couple of 2X6 pieces cut to 12" length and try propping up the engine cover to let air flow into the engine. See if that fixes the problem. That would then lead you to inspecting the fresh air feed. JQ |
