Went to the lake yesterday for some ski runs. Great day. Took a friend out who is almost 61 years old. He has never skied in his life but expressed a desire.

We got him up on doubles and you should have seen the smile. Took about 10 tries to get him up but once up he settled in he rode the skis well.
Crossed the wake both directions and went till he was too sore to keep going.
He got back in the boat afterwards and expressed that he has wanted to learn to water ski his whole life. Went overboard thanking us for getting him out and giving him the opportunity.

It was great to see the enthusiasm from a new set of eyes, he kept smiling all afternoon.
Talked to him today and he said he is really sore and this guy works out daily and is in pretty fine shape.   The 10 tries and a long ski run woke up some muscles for sure.

It was one of those feel good afternoons.

Those are fun enjoyable times. Just a couple weeks ago, two friends and I were heading our for a few slalom runs. Another neighbor saw us heading out and texted me, asking if we had room for a passenger. A 19 year old kid who was visiting them with his family. He has wakeboarded a couple times, never skied. So he watches us run through our rotation a couple times and we wrap up. One of my friends asks if he wants to try. We only have slalom skis in the boat.   I am not very optimistic,, but what the heck, let him try. He jumps in and tries to start on one ski. Darned if after a handful of tries he didnt get up and have a pretty solid run. I have never been involved with teaching a first time skier to learn on one ski. It was his last day of vacation before heading back to the west coast. He was pretty stoked. The friends brought his mom out on their pontoon boat when they saw what we were doing, so she got to see it.

Really nothing better than that! Someone took the time to teach me at age 11 and I’ll never forget it. I’ve taught a few- feels good.

That is great. Another joins the crowd.   We need to teach more skiing and less surfing and wakeboarding!   We already canned tubing.   Nice Job

Here's another story.

Lady on facebook page for our neighborhood posts an inquiry about boats for sale, what kind of boat to get, want to get their kids skiing. Then she posted this.

She was referring to my buddies and me. I met them last week at a meeting and got talking to them and they are interested in giving it a try. So wednesday night I take out mom and dad. Get dad up on the boom/2 skis. That was all before he got pooped, but it was a start. I try my best to be an ambassador to the sport.

great story.

My kids and wife went from wakeboarding to slalom and skipped the double skis . 2 to 3 pulls at the deep water start and they were up and crossing the wake looking solid.

Don't be afraid to throw a wakeboarder on a slalom ski, after all they wakeboard sideways on what is effectively a big short ski, once they are up they all say how much easier it is than learning to wakeboard. My wife now prefers skiing.

At the Quest home, you have to give slalom a good try before you can wakeboard. Rules are rules....

So far my middle daughter is a slalom skier and loves it. Clearly she is my favorite daughter.

I like that rule......

My kids are 8 and 10 so as long as they want to be on the boat with me and get towed I don't care what they do, however tubes are banned on our boat. Last one we had fell on a knife somehow.

My favorite daughter

Start them young! My granddaughter is 16 months and I plan on her slaloming at 3 and a half. My daughter is fully supportive of this.

I’m so jealous! Unfortunately I have no slalom support in my house/friendship circle. Enjoy every minute as you are LUCKY!

I just returned from a week at Lake Powell. My daughter brought 5 friends on our houseboat adventure. One 18 year old girl had never done any kind of water sports before. We got her up on a slalom ski on the first session. Approximately 7-8 failed starts, but she finally got up. Talk about an excited girl. Way to go Laura!

I happened to meet a couple of members from our local waterski club in an adjacent houseboat. We all had skied together on the new Team Red SNOB and had a great time.   FWIW, I’m really liking my new HO Syndicate Omni.

Did you drop a course in at Lake Powell?

I don't have a portable slalom course on the houseboat...sure would be nice though. For us, Lake Powell = free-skiing. I've come to enjoy free-skiing more and more -- particularly when we have a lot of people with us.

Free skiing is great exercise. Doing 30 turns hard takes a lot out of you compared to only 6!
