Hi,

Does anyone know how many lbs the gas shocks for the doghouse and observer seat are? Our 95 only has SL-36 printed on them and no indication for the lbs. since we are metric over here I have to have them custom built, already found the dimensions. According to NP the seat should have 80 lbs, and the dog house varies between 40 and 80 lbs.
It has the single doghouse, not the clamshell...

Thanks in advance
Frank.

If you have a good one, measure the compression rate. The difference between a 40 and 80 shock are pretty easy to tell.

I replaced mine on the 95 Ski Nautique 7 years ago. I bought 4 of the 80 lb shocks.   I can share the 80 works very well for the passenger seat.   My engine cover is too stiff.   It lifts up very well but I have to firmly grab it and close it. It does not go down easy.   I would guess a 60 pound on the engine cover would be a better fit. With the 80 lb on the engine cover I am afraid I will rip out the hinge screws at some point, they are too stiff.
Mine came from Nautique Parts/ NP Part number S3733, they were $21 each 7 years ago.

The glove box gas shock is S3193 and it works very well. $12.50 7 years ago.

Hope it helps

Mark

This 'cabinet' shock is a low cost replacement for the glove box shock. $11 for 2. Free shipping if you have prime.

https://www.amazon.com/Apexstone-Strut-Spring-Support-Shocks/dp/B0156P6YVC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=spring+lift+7+1%2F2+extended&qid=1582386428&sr=8-1

They are about 3/8" shorter that the springlift part but I seem to burn through the glovebox shock almost yearly. (cabinet shock is on top, springlift on the bottom)

If you know the size of your other shocks (extended, compressed lenths + supported weight, you can frequently source lower price replacements from Amazon.

1997 Masters Edition Nautique - gone (amazing ski wake)

But Amazon is not a Forum Supporter? My glove box shock is now 7 years old and feels and works like brand new. FYI

The '99 Pro Air we just bought needs all the lift shocks replaced so I have been looking for cheaper alternatives.

Original:
Rear Hatch (x2) - SL-36-20
Doghouse (x2) - SL-36-60
Observer Seat (x2) - SL-36-60
Ski Locker (x1) - SL-36-20
Glove Compartment (x1) - ML31-20

The SL-36 units are all the same length with different pressures (17.25" extended and 10.25" compressed)

I found some made by Strongarm that you can buy from various sources like Amazon or Rockauto for about $11 each.

Sl-36-60 = Strongarm 4482 (70lbs instead of 60lbs)
SL-36-20 = Strongarm 4418 (40lbs instead of 20lbs)
ML31-20 = Strongarm 4053 (25lbs instead of 20lbs)

There is also an 85lbs unit: 6931

The Strongarm units arm slightly longer when compressed (10.6") and are higher pressure. There is enough margin on the compressed length with the existing shocks that the Strongarm units should work. The 40lbs instead of the 20lbs may be an issue.

Here are the links to the originals:

Doghouse and Seat $20.78 Each

Rear Hatch and Ski Locker $20.78 Each

Glove Compartment $12.95 Each

Depending on how many you are replacing the NP prices aren't bad. You decide.
