Doing some rewiring work on the 1956 Atom. The oil gauge has a leak and hoping to clean up as best as possible. Suggestions for removing oil residue from wood?

Pre wet with a strong solvent like Toluene then apply a poultice of powdered "oil dry" and the Toluene.
Did you strip the varnish/sealer off the dash or wasn't it varnished?
