Paul,

When Jbear gets here we are definitely going to get the twin reds out on the water. John also says he's gonna ski, even if its the first of April.
I'll bring my camera.

Paul,
I'm pulling the engine out of our Cla$$ic as well. While it starts and idles great, and has no leaks, it has more compression blowing out the top vent (pre-pcv)than it does out the exhausts. It's supposed to be a 300HP 390 (according to the manual) but actually runs more like 200HP.

As for below deck, the bulge gets slightly damp only when I run her really hard so do I need to tighten or loosen up my packing nut?

Chuck; Just have a step-off ski ready for me.

Reid: Have the same damp buldge problem after running hard. Maybe I gotta slow down.

John,
Can't you just take a running start off the dock?

Damn john your brave if you do the running start off of the dock.......I'll be the one in the boat with camera rolling

hell lets just hook up a parasail so you wont even get close to the water?

Reidp,

Rebuild that thing!!!! As for the pump.....Just put one of those dripless seals on it like i am and forget about it!I think thats what i will do.

Flying dock starts...no problem 15 years ago. Now I do it the chicken way....step-off a ski. Easy to do and no falls.

No more parasailing either. Altho mrs jbear did give me a "tandem" jump at the sky dive school here in Lake Wales for Christmas. Can't wait. Never jumped from a plane.

Chuck,

All tore down and sending the heads and intake off to be port matched and ported and pollished. Also next week taking the short block to have the crank pistons and rods all balanced.....Then put it all back together.

I think i may go ahead and order one of those dripless shaft seals and Strainer put it in while i have the motor out.

Question..... does the water that supplies the seal have to be cold water.????? And does it have to be under pressure to push seal up tight or could i come straight off of the side of my block where the drain plugs are?

Just thought i might start asking these questions before i start the install?

Can anyone help? Maybe i should have posted this on the other post's.

I put mine in the hose just before the hose goes into the head. It is a PSS Seal.

behl,

yea it is the PSS seal.

what about the amount of psi force to keep pressure on the seal face?

Paul,

P.S. Nice tique by the way!!

Do not know. I just use what is in that line. If I remember correctly the T fitting came in the kit for that water line. All you need is enough pressure to force water out the bottom at low speed. Does not take much. When at higher speed a low pressure would be created on the seal from the underside of the boat pulling the water thru the seal.

At least that is the way I see it.
