I have been lurking on this forum for a year or so i thnk it is great. I posted one last night but it never showed up ?? I have a few questions. I have 1979 Ski Nautique. She has blisters from the water line down and the lettering is fadeing. Can i Sand the entire boat and repaint with and epoxy. When i sand will i have to fill in all of the blisters. This is my 2nd nautique. I love the nautique boats they are great.

tough subject, when you sand you can fill with fillers and then use a good epoxt primer, nowadays you can shoot 3 coats of primer and fill a valley, the primer is a consistancy of 20weight oil, so it really lays nice and fills the voids, paint preference is up to the owner, me personally I like base coat clear, everyone says its not durable..... cars bake out in the sun everyday and it holds up well. Its when you use cheap clears with no uv protectors in it.
epoxies are great and acrylic enamals are great for boats that sit at the dock baking all summer long. Lets face it, if you own a CC you pull it out of the water, wipe her down and put it back in the garage. For nice appearance i prefer bc,cc |

Boats can be painted. I have a cousin that builds and races hydros - he paints. Regardless of whether you paint or gel any cracks should be sanded completely out. Most of the pros on this site are in favor of gel. Depends on why you would go gel instead of paint. Are you looking at cost, ease of application, maintenance over time? You may search the strings for paint vs gel discussions - I remember a few.

It is all about the prep work and sanding .. I am going to paint it. I am hopeing that i can sand out the blisters and not have to fill them back in, I am going to shoot 3 0r 4 coats of primer on the boat and then sand. Its going yo take some time end result should be good.

I painted my Tique with Interlux marine paint. They have a complete line of paints. Both one part as well as two part. I used the one part Brightside just last year. Will see how it holds up. I keep the boat covered at home on the trailer. Check with West Marine or Jamestown Distributors |

I found out recently (summer) that Interlux is made by Akzo Noble which we switched from Sherwin Williams to Akzo 3 years ago, I ve used Interlux many times and never had a problem except for the price. I was buying it through Land n Sea. Im waiting for the rep to get prices on the full line of marine paints and see what the discount is
