How would a person flush a engine with a cooling system like ours? I am having a problem with the motor getting warm and heard of a person on here flushing his motor and it helped. I sure don't know how a person would shut the flow of water off so the cleaner would break up any deposits or anything like that.

I am leaving for the Ozarks in 6 days and would like to troubleshoot as much as possible.

My gauge says 180-190 degrees. I know it is about 15-20degrees off. I have a new 160 thermostat in there. 180 would be about right, but today it crept up to 190-200 a few times.

This problem has been haunting me for quite some time. I have a newer sending unit, brand new impeller and thermostat. What the heck else could be doing this?

Todd,

Your boat should be running a 140 degree stat, which will keep you sitting right around 160.

Todd, If you know that your temp gauge and or sender "is off" then I would address this first.

As far as flushing, I have a friend with a shallow slip in a boathose and he has the tendency of sucking up sand. He has a pre water strainer days Barracuda. He has good success with removing the themostat and then hooking up the garden hose to the discharge hoses to the risers. This reverses the normal flow and he does get sand out.

Fix the gauge and get the correct thermostat in it first.

My 140 degree stat keeps my boat at 140 degrees when I'm running it all the time.

My 143 'stat keeps me at 160 most of the time. If I run at 20 mph for a minute or so, I run closer to 150. If I run hard and return to idle, it'll warm up to 170 or so.

Todd, when does the temp creep up? If its at idle, check for air leaks- tighten the strainer bowl and all hose clamps. If the temp is only rising 10-20 degrees at idle after running hard, I wouldnt say thats abnormal. I believe Joel is correct- you probably want to run the 143 stat. My '90 and our former '92 (with Protec) have always run at 160 degrees.

I know it is supposed to have the 143 and I have played around with the 160 and 143. I ran thte 160 for a year or so then decided if the manual called for a 143, then I better put that in. But when I talk to any CC dealer, they say to use the 160 because "they" were told to replace all 143 with 160. Seems stupid to me, but I am just doing what I am told.

I am creeping up when running down the lake. We cruised at 25mph for about 1 hour or so and we stayed a little above normal. When I initially shut it down it did creep up a few degrees. Then after a period of idling around the lake it was back to normal. Sounds like this is standard procedure huh?

I installed a flushing mechanism from SkiDim right after the strainer bowl. I do have the fittings tight, but I am going to replace that section of hose and eliminate the valve just to see if that does anything. I honestly don't think I am drawing any air leaks.

I will play with it at the Ozarks and if it is still giving me problems, I am sure we can fix it at GL. I know there will be people there to help me out.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

Todd,
If the problem persists, I'd sell the boat for a new one.. I'll give ya $5000 and you can just leave it up in GL for me....

Thanks...
