For those who did not see Keith's post in a different thread, GL09' dates have already been established. That's right, even before the end of the year, it has been decided that Green Lake will take place the weekend of July 17-19th, 09'.

This is one week later that the event has been the last three years. Those who have already made reservations for the previous week, you'll need to change them. For those planning on coming for the first time, there are plenty of places to stay including the ever popular camping area Hattie Sherwood campground..

It's going to be a long winter, but at least we know the dates are solid and you can plan accordingly..

Any questions, feel free to ask..

Then we can see to make reservations for us
Can't wait to meet you guys!

Kristof: The week later change is very bad for Patti and I. The new dates put us in conflict with our Tennessee vacation with all our Ohio Ski Club buds. I will have to look at the calender closer. I have talked to MM about a road trip to GL instead of flying. That would be fun and you and Chantal would get to see alot of the USA.

Moj: I need to change my reservations so if we don't make it, the room would be avalible for our Belguim friend but....I seem to have lost or misplaced the number. You got it? Thanks.

Just called the Bay View and changed my dates.

The new dates make for tight bookings. If you stay there better make the change ASAP, for they already have a large group for that wkend.

So, where should I make reservations? Which motel do you guys recommend? (It would be nice not having to walk -or crawl- a too long distance from the bar where we have the last beer...)

MM, if JBear and Patti can't make it, you would take us on a road trip? I'd like that!

Kristof,
Check the post above this one. The closest hotels are the Bayview and the Lakeside Inn's. There are also close B&B's and small rental houses right in town within walking distance. One place call the "Tuck-me-Inn" is a 2 bedroom house directly across from the boat ramp and next to the bar... I would check it out. Perhaps go in with another couple etc...

Bayview is booked full.

Also, for those of you with children, you might want to make sure the B & B you choose allows a 3rd person in the room. We loved McConnell Inn, but we can't stay there if we bring our kid next year. They said the village code does not allow more than 2 to stay in a room in a B & B.

I also think that could be a great trip for Kristof and Chantal, as we've got our typical caravan of 4-5 boats/vehicles making that yearly trek with plenty of extra space. We'd also love to play host for an afternoon/evening to our favorite Belgians at Lake Norman. Then, on to a nice ride up thru the mountains, thru the rolling hills and across the flatlands up to GL, while picking up several more along the way.

Any chance you can persuade them to get hitched in GL, Chuck?

If anyone ends up room-less, don't forget the option to rent a nice camper and stay at Hattie Sherwood, which the rental companies delivered to site. At least 3 parties did that this year including Hollywood, Quinner, and myself. I believe the cost was comparable to the various motels/hotels.

All,
Help me out - we are going to try to come up for the weekend and may even stay longer. For those who are "regulars" what is a good area to stay around the lake (if we can rent a cottage) or what should we stay clear of? Your sound advice will be good for a few drinks on my tab. Thanks.

You ever heard of the PLBC, 67Nautique312, quinner, or the "shot ski"? You better be bringing plenty of "tab" money. These guys are thirsty.

You will meet the greatest bunch of guys and their families and have the time of your life.

Steve,

Mojo and Raindog are the "Mayors" of Green Lake, they should be able to guide you to a good spot. Last year we stayed at the campground, stayed Tues-Mon. Reid hooked us up with a rental trailer, worked out great and there is always quite a few from our group staying there, no matter where you stay it will be a great time!

All,
Thanks for the feedback.
86 BFN - we boat on James (Snow and Jimmerson). Quinner I will follow up with the "Mayors" and Jbear I usually find a high bar tab is the norm when boating....just part of the deal.
I am going to Map Quest a few things as we have some family with a place in Door County. We have never visited but if things work out right we may be able to road trip and boat for the week.

Hiya Steve,
Making a decision to come to GL09' is a decision you won't regret.. Regarding accommodations, they are plentiful. Hotels, B&B's, rental properties on and off lake, plus a great campground (where a lot of the action is)..

I would start by going to the Chamber website and looking around. There are three hotels and two B&B's within walking distance to the main boat ramp. They are:
Bayview Motel
Lakeside Motel
Green Lake Inn
Oakwood Lodge
McConnell Inn

Many of these are probably already booked out, but I would still try every one. Some of the B&B'sw arn't kid friendly, so please ask when booking..
http://www.greenlakecc.com/greenlakecc/businessdirectory.asp?act=&catID=62&subCatID=4 - GL Chamber site

It will be great to meet you and any family. There will be plenty to do, see, and drink...
Watch for the registration page to appear after the first of the year.. In the meantime, please feel free to contact myself or Raindog (Steve Evans) if you have any questions..

Merry Xmas !!!

Two recommendations for just the two of you..

Mc Connell Inn, 1st choice, walk to everything GL has to offer. Great B&B !!

The manager at Hattie Sherwood will allow any "pets" as long as they are well mannered and dont bark at the guests, this applies to two or four legged critters.
This year Quinner will be reqired to have both a muzzel and a leash as there were some issues as to his interaction with other campers.
Glad to have some new blood willing to come and endure the GLReunion.Looking forward to meeting you and yours in July....Boat dr

If anyone is looking for group lodging, our next door neighbor rents her property. It is new-ish, off water with a slip in the mooring channel and a private launch. 3 or 4 bedrooms I believe. If anyone (or groups) is interested, I can contact her directly and probably work out a fair deal outside of the rental agent.

Make sure you arrive Thursday or earlier, wink, wink!

We're all pros and not what you normally see at a ramp. Except me - I backed into Tim's boat trailer last year and busted one of his tail lights!!

I got my confirmation from the Bayview.

Billy, sure sounds like it is going to be a heck of a good time! Unfortunately it is a big drive and we just don't have the time off work. I am having to skip family vacation to take full advantage of GL! Ahhh, time well spent!

Renee usually tows the boat all the way to Minnesota so I guess I could have her drive to Florida?? To get in warmer weather, she just might do that!

Is the campground the central location of the reunion? Does it have a ramp and a parking lot to store the boat? Bathrooms have running water?

Yes to all above !!
It's basically right in town, water on two sides, ramp, RV and tent camping, showers etc.. It has become party central because of all these things.. Our boat show/display was down at the base of the CG where the ramp is. Reunion pics show it pretty well...

If you want to just haul a boat, there are camper distributors local that will place a trailer for you and pick it up when you go. I believe 2 or 3 members did this in 08'

Make GL part of your summer plans, it's a great time !!!

Just like Mojo said, the campground is super convenient. The only driving you have to do all weekend (save for trips to the gas station perhaps) is the 100 yards from the launch at the campground to your campsite. All the sites are double deep so you never have to unhook your trailer. Meet and greet is right there, and the Goose Blind is a short walk down the road. Doesnt get much more convenient than that!

The launch and dock at the campground:

Tim, a couple of dumb questions. From the pictures, WI looks like Maine, so at night it's apt to be 50 or 90, but probably in the 70's? And there are probably mesquitos?

Hi Bruce. Actually the last couple of years have been on the cool side. Hopefully moving it back a week will help. Mosquitoes can be bothersome,it all depends on how much rain we get.I take it that your thinking going? If so what boat? Hope to see you there.

Gary, we're thinking about it. We're not campers so I'm tryng to figure the logistics of using what we have. We'd be bringing the Mustang as long as it works once it's put back together. Maiden voyage should be by 4th of July. Probably similar to Maine, so sleeping in my truck with the windows open is not a good idea.

Bruce,
The other option is to stay at the Bayview Hotel. I think 10 or 12 of us stayed there. Older (60s) hotel, but clean and well kept.

Heres a pic from last year of boat parking:

they also have their own private launch and

FYI, the campground is located in the tree area , below the sunset in this picture.

The 1st year we stayed at the Darforth motel, about 1 mile away, but really too far from the action. http://home.centurytel.net/bayview/ - http://home.centurytel.net/bayview/

Greetings from a neewbie...My wife and I are trying to make reservations at the Bay View today. Bill say's he's full...put us on a waiting list. The Lakeside is another option??? I like the launch/dock at Bayview. We are not into camping so I guess we'll wait for a cancellation. Really looks to be a great time on a calm lake. I air-chair so water depth is a concern. Looking at the '08 pics it looks like the lake can get shallow...surely it gets deeper??? We are at Lake Ozarks so depth is no problem but smooth water is hard to find. Look forward to partying and meeting new folks...hoping for a cancellation. Will be there Thursday and leave Monday...

Most of Green Lake is quite deep. If memory serves me correctly, it is the deepest lake in Wisconsin. The photos you see are at a shallow sandbar area where people gather during the day. Other pix are taken on calm shorelines, usually in the morning.....the lake is pretty good size a will get rough if the wind picks up. Hope to see you there!

Rogers,
Unless you've done some mayor modifications to the 196, I don't feel you'll have any problems. Sounds like you've hit something at one time and you're worried.

"Green Lake, also known as Big Green Lake is a lake in Green Lake County, Wisconsin.

The lake has a maximum depth of 237 feet (72 m), making it the deepest natural inland lake in Wisconsin. The lake covers 7,346 acres (30 km2), has 29.3 miles (47.2 km) of shoreline and has an average depth of 100 feet (30 m)."

Hopefully Bill will have some changes come up. It would be nice to get a few more CCfan'rs into the Bayview. The Lakeside does have rooms available.

I appreciate the info on the lake...the air-chair needs a good 4-6 feet...looks like i'll be fine...just don't get to close to the sand(bar)..it looks like the Bay View has all the goodies dock and launch. The Lakeview doesn't have a web site..do they also have dock/launch? I'm not used to relaxing/consuming in waist deep water...that looks pretty cool. At the Ozarks everyone pulls up/ties to each other and we boat-hop. The swim platforms help. If you guys think the Lakeview is just as good let me know...Thanks

Rogers,

Reserve a room at the LakeView, great spot in the center of town directly across from the launch, decent hotel. If something opens up at the bayview you could always cancel the other room.

No worries on your Foil, we have ridden out there many times.

Hope you all join the fun this year!

Rogers,
Welcome to the site.. We all look forward to meeting you this summer.. Please keep in mind there are several other choices for hotel accommodations. Not many of them being on the wayer, but walking distance all the same.. Please let me know if you have any questions. Being a resident, I can certainly point you in the right direction.

How many people in your party? Do you have kids? Again B&B's, house rentals, cabins etc are all still available in town..

Watch for the registration page to come up for mare details..

Hope you didn't take any of that too seriously, its a friendly group and we love new people. It was a simple and rare mistake on Reggie's part and no bitching was required to straighten it out. I called and made reservations the day the dates for this year were announced and while I do like the waterfront spots I would have went anywhere if they were already booked. Mostly, I just wanted to make sure we didn't both show up with reservations for the same sites.

Looking forward to meeting the Hunter clan!

Lakeside is literally 40 feet across the street from the boat ramp. Some have rented a slip at the Marina, which is at the boat ramp, but really not necessary.

Water temp will not be in the mid 80s, but no one was wearing wetsuits. Only our friends from the deep south seemed to mind the water temps. We took shorties last year. Wife may have used hers, but I did not. I would say a shorty is sufficient.

Kind of a small to mid size market on the outside of town probably 3-4 miles. Several restaurants in town. "The Little Corporal" is a diner/breakfast joint/ice cream shop where many of us went for breakfast. It's right in town, probably 1/2 mile walk from the campground.

For Coffee in the morning seek out Critter's motorhome. He makes a good pot of coffee.
