Alright gang, time to set up our end of season Lake Clinton trip. Attendance has been a little light past couple of years but how about we ramp it up a bit this year and go out with a bang.

Lake Clinton is a great destination for the cooler weather as it's a power plant cooling lake and in September it should be in the high 70's low 80's in most of the lake and well above that at the outlet.

We need to pick a weekend and there are 2 open for us so I put September 14-15 or the following 21-22 out there. Please speak up as to which works for you if you plan to attend and we'll do our best to make it work for everyone.   14-15 is best for us, we'll let this go a few days then pick a date and start booking campsites.

We are working on the 14-15 Magic.. Only weekend that works for us..

Has there been any developments on hotels closer than the one way up in Leroy?

Moj'

I know RJ will chime in as he's already booked for the 14th weekend as well

No nothing new in lodging Dave, the petting zoo in Farmer City (Days Inn) is still open but other than that I think Leroy is your best bet.

I'll check with Todd and then we'll confirm a weekend so we can get camp sites booked. We're going to try a different loop this year that will get us closer to the tie up cove but we'll need to book this week or they won't be available.

Still in A loop but sites 15-24 will get us a short walk down the hill to the water. Boats can be tied up during the day or even overnite and it's just a short walk up to the campers. Makes it nice to come in mid day for a break/lunch or to check on the family beasts.

I just booked A16 for the weekend of the 14-15. Any later in the month is geting too late for harvest/work. Don't let me dictate what weekend you all decide on because we are so close and will camp that weekend anyway. But my vote obviously is 14-15.

ok, looks like it sept 14-15. You can reserve sites at
http://www.reserveamerica.com/" rel="nofollow - Reserve america just enter camping in De Witt, Illinois, Clinton Lake Camping.

Here's the loop we'd like to take over and these are prime spots so do not wait to book them, they are currently available but go fast. There is a short trail down to a cove on the lake where you can tie your boat up so these sites won't last long, book em.

sites 17 and 18 are Todd and I and I'm guessing the other is one of us as well, maybe RJ?

Hey Alan, we have a wedding on the 14th, but if we get a wild hair and survive the night, maybe Amy and I will shoot down Sunday for the day. FYI, we are setting up the course tonight for our first run on it and are camping, so we'll be getting some early morning glass tomorrow    .

Pray for good weather...RJ is coming so it will definitely rain one day...hahaha! Hope to get a few more coming. just a helpful reminder IF you are going to camp....PLEASE book early because these spots go fast. Prime reality! I would hate to have you down the road IF you wanted to be with the group!

Glad to see all the people making the trip. The water will always be in the upper 80's even that time of the year! Great soaking water!

Hope the wheather holds up!! looks good so far..?

Promo is almost ready. Had to rewire the charging system because the PO aparently thought that chrysler alternators have built in Voltage regulators and wired it like a 1 wire system....NOT!!!! thank god i had a donor boat with the same set up in it!! after 2 days of diagnosing i found 1)bad alternator(No output) 2)bad cut out relay(still not sure how that thing works) and 3) voltage regulator was shot(contacts coroded)

Jeez....it just goes to show you never know what you are getting into when you buy a boat. I inherited two major problems when i got this boat...Water pump on backwards and botched charging system!!!

The up side to all these problems is...wont ever have a problem fixing the damn thing if it breaks down!

Pat....Kim and i will have room if you dare ride with us....but you have to bring a tool box full of tools with ya...

can't wait to see everyone..... see ya Friday!

i still have to fix my Tach....i have a replacement that i got from Mojo.hope that's it?

would love a ride in the Hurricane!!....kim and i will take you up on that offer if you get time?

what elect improvments did you do? i'm sure you added a fuse block like i did....nothing was fused on the promo from the factory??? just one 30 amp one shot breaker from the battery that's it.

Errr, I dont think so Paul! Sounds like someone goofed with the boat's wiring before you got it. Your original gauge panel would have had fuses in it.

tim,

No evidence of any fuse's in the Promo...the guage cluster looked to be untouched and wires seemed to be the factory position. correct color factory wires nothing added or changed???

Paul, if this is the dash that the promo came to you with, then it had been swapped out at some point by a previous owner, presumably with the fuses eliminated. It would have originally had the plastic (fake woodgrain) one with the Correct Craft logo shown above, which CC used in various models from late 1968 through '71 or '72. It looks like the one your boat has/had was made out of wood?

Paul, I'm on my third starter relay. Had a Cole Hersey piece in which is supposed to be good stuff but one of the studs broke free and I couldn't tighten the nut. So last night I stopped at our nautique dealer and picked up a PCM relay. Feels like a nice solid unit so we'll see. I also ran a jumper wire from the solenoid to the coil so I get full voltage at the coil when cranking. I was only getting 7v because of the ballast resistor and it just didn't want to fire up. Fired up first try after I installed the jumper so hopefully my gremlins are starting to be eliminated.

I hope I've got the shift linkage right now because there's no more adjustment in it, if it's not right I've got to pull it out and make some changes over the winter.

When I wired the boat up I installed a 40AMp main breaker, then a 20 amp breaker to the dash feed/fuse block, lights and bilge pump have their own fuses.

Tim,

I am aware that the guage panel was replaced but still all the guage wiring still shows NO sign of "Chop cut rebuild"...i guess it's possible??? i will take some photo's and send to ya to see what you think.

alan,

sounds like we did the exact same thing....i had 9V to coil after the ballast resistor.... and everything from the guage is individually fused.

Pat....Kim and i will have room if you dare ride with us....but you have to bring a tool box full of tools with ya...                                                                                                                                                 Paul   Thanks I would like to take you up on that. How many tools do I need ? Would a 12 pack of tools work? Thanks

Evans out...never in actually. Sat is our 17th Wedding Anniversary so it was a non starter. I'm not celebrating my nuptials in a tent surrounded by this crew!

But the kicker is Riot Fest in Chicago. On Sunday I'm meeting up with Johnny to see the second Replacements show in 22 years. Opening up is the Pixies, Bob Mould and many others thrown in for good measure.

However, I'm certain my priorities are clearly seen as misguided by all with maybe Joel and Alan as the only possible exceptions.

Have a blast and don't eat any of the fish...

Bringing the geiger counter to sweep over the Arrighis and the Weitekampts before we jump in the lake, for sure!

Seriously looking forward to a good time.

You kids have fun out there- I couldn't come up with a way to reasonably get there - next year I will just buy plane tickets early. If someone could go pro a nice ride in the hurricane for us that would be awesome.

Well gang, what can I say. Another great CCFan gathering. The boat is still wet, as is every towel, swimsuit, and lifejacket we have. That's what it's all about! Great to see folks that I haven't seen in way too long.

Taking an 18mo-old child camping in a tent certainly had its challenges (at least two "that's it, F-it, we're done" moments, LOL) but overall it was a BLAST. My 6 year old openly weeping/crying immediately when she saw the latrine for the first time was majorly funny. "Daddy there is a dead cicada in there too". It was hard for me not to LMAO at her reaction to that situation but I did my best.

Every time you go camping, you learn something new to make the next trip easier. This year it was the amazing space heater we used to make our second night in the tent cozy and comfortable. As usual everybody was super helpful and great to chat with.

We had good water, and did lots of good skiing. As usual, floating around in 92 degree water never gets old and Clinton delivered 100%.

Couple pics, and of course a video of the Hurricane firing up here (don't forget to click "watch in HD in the lower right hand corner of that video, big difference): http://www.flickr.com/photos/m3fan/sets/72157635550064711/" rel="nofollow - Clinton Fall 2013 on Flickr

Great weekend Gang, Saturday weather and water conditions could not have been any nicer. Great food, couple of late night campfires and of course it was great to see everyone, especially the Hunters whom we miss dearly. Can't wait for the next one.

As for the Hurricane, it did run pretty good. Had to make a few trans adjustments to get us through the weekend but it's still not right, couple more trips out and I'll keep tweaking on it. Joel also left me with a prop to try next time we're out as I need to get the rpms down a bit.

It also might serve me well to get the fuel gauge working as we ran out of gas with the boat ramp in sight and had to get hooked to the rope of shame! At least it was behind a Competition tow boat!

Does anyone have a picture of the Hurricane with the boat full of lovely ladies and one smiling old man?

Alan,
The Hurricane looked and sounded just amazing going out across Clinton.. I missed getting a ride in it, as it was hogged up most of the time haha.. You'll get the small stuff ironed out..

Sat weather was amazing out there Mid 70's, 90 degree, flat water.. My youngest boared more there than in GL at summer.. Great day for sure.. Dana is an awesome driver by the way, but I already told you that, plus you already know !!!

Great to see those we haven't seen in awhile.. Pat (sorry we missed Wendy), the Hunter's etc.. Great way to close out the summer..

We'll be there next June for sure...

Had a great day at lake Clinton. Thanks to Paul and Kim Waters for allowing me to occupy there back seat. It was also nice to see several people I hadn't seen in a couple years. If you ever get a chance to go to Lake Clinton for what ever reason , I suggest you jump at the chance. The weather and water were beautiful. It was just overall a great experience!!

Clinton never disappoints. I was great to see everyone and spend some needed time in the warm water.
Thanks Alan and Todd we couldn't survive "camping" without you.

Also funny talking about how immediately and substantially inadequate we all feel in the presence of Todd's truck! Good times.

No plans right now Mojo, Some of us are trying to get down to Reids in Sept. Looks like we've got a mini gathering at Clinton next weekend though, 4 boats so far if you can make it down.

Oh wow, I just got back on this site (it's been years) and saw your post. I live in Blono and would love to meet everyone. As my screen name says I have 1974 Ski Nautique. Just blew the transmission though so I better get busy repairing it.
