Subject: Calling GA Members

My job was kind enough to put me on a project in ATL for the summer and my first trip on site is the week of June 23rd. I have another trip the week before so instead of going home, I'm flying down to my parents place to do some skiing.

Who wants to go skiing the weekend of June 21st and/or June 28th?

I'm pretty sure me and my dad will be on the water both Saturdays and Sundays, but I figure since we're close, lets get some people together. He lives a mile from West Point Lake in LaGrange, so I was thinking anyone who's interested come down there for a day, and then maybe the next weekend (or vice versa) he and I will trailer the 75 up to Lanier, since I know a lot of you guys are there.

Who's in and what do schedules look like?

Also, obviously I'm not ruling out non-GA folks, if you're in AL, TN, SC, FL, NY, etc and feel like doing some skiing with some fellow CCF'ers, speak up. If you're coming from out of town and need a place to stay we can probably even accommodate that too.

Let me add my two-cents. we are planning for lots of water time will IAughtNaught is in town. The area we ski in has access by auto, so don't think you will miss something if you come boatless. we also have access to a covered pavilion at our little site, as well as flat water.

My boat's way over on Oconee, but I live in nearby Peachtree City, so boatless works for me. Thanks for the offer, may just have to take you up on that.

Have always wanted to go out on West Point. Took my Century over there once back during the droughts, but there was 30 feet of mud past the ramp pavement. Sitting in a ramp parking lot with a boat on the trailer and no water.....

Good to hear from you Jeff. We have plenty of water right now. Adam and I hope you can make a visit. We hope to hear from others, such as Morfoot and Cphase. The point we ski off of has a nice sandy bottom sand bar for the kids or just "pond floating".

I'm gonna be real disappointed if we don't at least have a Morfoot and NautiqueHunter (x2) sighting.

Tim, I see some footing in your future...we'll definitely have the water...and the boom...and a couple suits...and a couple drivers...and no room for excuses!

Adam there will be at least one Morfoot sighting when you're hwre I can promise you that. Might have to do two since you made the trek down here. May have to do a weekend at west point if Mama Deen will put me up for the night again and get y'all to head to Lanier maybe the last weekend in June. There is a Motorcycle Rally that weekend with concerts in the evening I think at the amphitheatre.....What's the signifigance?????.. We can listen to the music by boat as the theater is next to the water and NautiqueHunter is 10 mins from it.

Here's the link.. http://www.thunderontheparkway.com/index.php" rel="nofollow - Thunder on the Parkway

Tim, Mama Deen says "come on down", especially since you suggested music on the water. So, it looks like the 21st and 22nd could be your weekend on West Point. Happy to have you.

So with or without boat, all fans welcome. For the fair skinned, we have shade for afternoon fun if it is needed.

Bumping this one back up as Adam is crusing into town this weekend. I'm up for a West Point ride on Sunday the 22nd as I've got plans to ride the scoot on Sat morn. Maybe drag the 88 over Sat afternoon/eve to ski with the Deen boys..... Whose game?

I propose another day on Lanier the weekend of the 27th to coincide with the rally thats going on and another meeting of Lanier Crew for those who were there last week and those who may have missed it. Drag the Deens up from LaGrange as well.

That all sounds about right to me. I'll actually be arriving late tomorrow night but I have to work during the day Friday, so I think maybe dad and I will go out for a quick evening set and then set up camp Saturday morning.

I'm good with the rally/concert on Lanier the next weekend. Long as we get some flat water during the day I'll be happy.

Sounds good to me. This week at West Point Lake and Lanier the next Saturday.
Tim, love to see Miss Scarlett on our water. Do I remember you tweeked the Mofoot beverage by going with Diet Sprite or Sprite Zero?

If you come through LaGrange on US 29, continue toward West Point/Lanett and you will see a two story white gas station/store called RIBITZ. In about a quarter of a mile, take the first road to the right, Long Cane Access. Turn right on the next road you come to and follow around to the next right and you are there. It is possible that we may have other people there that may be a problem, so give me a call (706 957 1186, if I have reception) to update you on the exact location.

Lanier, weekend, flat water, during the day, should not be used in the same sentence! Best chance is up on the North end by Greg's place.

Sounds like a Plan..... Diet Sprite or Sprite Zero...It's about the same either works. The juice is sweet enough to counter the dreaded diet taste.

True dat' cat but we actually found some flat water down by the dam last sat til about 10am when the 40 ft yachts started venturing out. We did find somewhat of a quiet cove waaaaaaaay back in Deer Park Creek but still to rough to slalom. Calm enough to drop anchor and enjoy the sun, water, CCFans and a brew or 3.

Hi Ben, looks like you're new here, welcome to the site. If you're not familiar with the lake my dad listed out the directions above. If you're looking for some time on the water this weekend come on out and meet the crew.

I assume that if you're hanging out here you're a correct craft guy, do you have a boat? What year/model? Thinking about bringing it down to west point this weekend? Are you a skier? If so, what's your poison? Hopefully you can make it down, boat or not. If not, we'll have my dad's 75 and there's a rumor that Morfoot's bringing his along for the trip so we'll have plenty of room.

Saw the location after I posted. Thanks. Was already planning to meet a friend tomorrow at Shaeffer Heard so I will be sure to drop by. Look forward to seeing Cphase and the rest of you. Grew up camping and skiing with his family some.

Boat is a 83 nautique. Tan in color. Enjoy wakeboarding and footing with the occasional skate session thrown in as well. Not great at any of them but not too many places I enjoy more than being on the water. I would love the chance to foot off a boom and even shortline off the boom. Haven't had one in a couple of years now so I haven't done much footing. Looking forward to tomorrow.

we kinda purposefully left the boom at home tonight for our evening set but we're definitely bringing it tomorrow, will be more than happy to drag you around on it. my number is 440-FIVE FIVE TWO-3465 if you don't see us at long cane, but its not a big enough park to hide the white and red 75. We'll probably aim for early, early-thirty, definitely gonna be fun.

Yep, enjoyed it guys. Always a great time when hanging with fellow CCFans. Had to give Adam grief about his track record with breaking other members boats but he wasn't gonna get the best of a Southern Bell. Mama Deen was on the scene and I'm sure she'll have Adam back in shape in time for this weekend on Lanier with the rest of the GA crew.

Got a couple of good shots of Jackie in the 75 aka "Godfather" style and Adam on a slalom before he was done and done. Will get em up later.
HUGE thanks to the Deens for putting me up for the night, and feeding me. Mama Deen cooks a mean breakfast and Pork BBQ.... She's an awesome Hostess!

As co-host I am want to thank the Jeff, Jeff and family(cute family), and Ben for their efforts to come see our hole of water.
Too bad that we had a few wind ripples on such a gorgeous two days. Next time maybe 74wind can get a pull. As for "boom buster Ben", compost happens. By the way, nice rig you have.We will hopefully be ready for the next visit.
As for Morfoot and the Southern Belle, it was our pleasure. I got to ski behind her as well as drive her. Always a good time to be had. Some of his still pics and Adams videos will show what a good time we had.

Well, I guess it happened, here's the pics.

Great couple days with some CCFan homies.

And some videos

Started the weekend determined to do some long line deeps with a low pull behind the 75. Look at how bad that position is...completely reverted to laying flat on my back...no chance. Oh yeah, also working on learning to cheek. This was my first attempt. We were a little slow, see if you can guess where I gave up and asked for help. I made it out on my own each time after this one.

Dad loves his new tricks

Friday wasn't a loss, hit my fist step off in close to 10 years

Footing on Saturday-
Ben (jbb) warming up the boom

Tumble turns into a pretty violent unplanned front flip...but I never actually tumbled up on the short line before, so call it a win.

Dad working on his deep waters on the five foot line. He's struggling to get his back up high enough, skied this one away anyway.

Jeff (cphase) getting back into footing

We had that boom for over 20 years, it didn't owe us a cent

Jeff again, watch the little head nod to his family at the end, haha

Morfoot using the last of the flat water at the end of the day

Back on the long line, getting thrashed around, and then apparently I wanted to see how far outside the wake I could get. Plant was ok, just couldn't ski it out.

Again, way outside the wake, found some rollers, donezo

Sunday, decent water, bounced off the top of the wake

And this is the one that did me in...if you slow it down you can see one of my legs go way over my head...its getting better. On for this weekend for sure.

Some of you may know my dad got a new prop recently, he kinda likes it

Adam, it is such a great thing that you and your dad can get out and enjoy events like this together. It was what it life is to be about.

Just gonna post this here but looks like I will be bringing the smoker up to smoke some chicken for Sat afternoon. So wwe'll need to be somewhere's close to Burton Mill launch shortly after noon. Mama Deen said she was gonna bring sumthin'to go with it so don't pack a huge lunch. Mike may bust out the ToonTique so we'll have a floating barge to eat off of. I'll be up early on Sat to get the chicken on so I imagine the Hunters and I will be skiing shortly after that so any of y'all wanna pull then you best get there early before the weekend warriors show up I suggest you do so.

Looking forward to another Lanier Crew Gathering!

Injury update from the weekend: IAughtNaut thinks he is good to go Sat. morning on Lanier. The boom obviously was not getting a chance to rest between runs, got pissed off and bent out of shape. However, after a visit to qualified technicians (not the Deen boys) it has had it's problems straightened out and ready to be put back into play without any structural damage. So, Ben the "boom buster" lost his nickname.

But....hearing about Morfoot's Chicken...may have to rethink it now...

Great time on the water yesterday, even if it wasn't great water. It was great to see/meet everyone. Big thank you to Mike and Gail for housing us, and Tim for feeding everyone. We certainly weren't roughing it at any point. I think we can safely call this at least an unofficial mini mini with 6 CCS.

Couple pics, awesome weather...

And a few videos-

My dad took a long line stepoff run that we didn't have on video but then Gail decided to hop out and give it a go. I swear if there's a moment she's not smiling I haven't been a part of it

Then we met some strangers, in about the strangest way possible. I was getting ready to foot and Gail saw a boat coming, so she flagged them down and said they weren't allowed to use our water until we were done. And the dude was ok with it. So we threw him out on the boom. I missed his first run, which was the best, they said they would try to find our little corner of the internet, so maybe we'll hear more from them.

I made a little more progress...great dismount against the wake

Wasn't nobody out there but me and the rents this morning, but we did get another set it before coming home for dinner with grandma.

I decided (rightly or not) that I was getting knocked sideways when I rocked back into the wake, so I gave it a shot inside. Worked ok except that I stood up a little slow and dad didn't want to jump me straight up to full throttle...I am inside that spray somewhere.

Adam,
When deeping up as the rope comes tight and you are about to break the waters surface if you roll onto your hip you should automatically cheek outside of the wake. You may want to give it a try.

Looking like a good time despite the rain. How about some Tim pics or was he to busy cooking?

It was a great day. Rain blew in for about fifteen minutes. My Sport broke loose and had to re spot her before she banged into Jackie's 75 SN. Another fun day on Lanier.
Sure glad the Deans made the trip!
Yes, Tim's smoked chicken was fabulous.... as usual.

I didn't see tim spend a whole lot of time with his camera in his hands, although I just may not have been paying attention.

Greg, I can't even make those words make sense to me...you're saying to turn on my side while I'm basically under water? I don't know quite how I feel about that. I came away from this weekend feeling very good about a few things....I came up cleanly on my butt every time, and with very few exceptions was able to cheek outside at will. Last weekend my plant position was terrible, this weekend it got better and better. I was getting on my feet, I just never made any long runs because I would either be buried by spray or get knocked down by that big unfriendly 75 wake. If you slow the falls down you'll see I spin at the end of most of them. We're starting to wonder if maybe I needed a little more speed to clear that spray, I know I need more practice to handle that wake. Its all reps with me, I got a lot of reps in this weekend and made slow progress (which is all I ever do) so I'm calling it a win. And I got used to that low pull, so I know when I get behind my own boat that will be all the better.

Thought your plants looked good. You do not need to roll all the way onto your side but you want to be on your hip as your coming out of the water.
Certainly not doing yourself any favors with the 75' line. Could not tell from the videos if the spray was speed or form related.
There is no substitute for pull after pull.

No kidding, the only way you know I'm still back there is because the rope stays tight into the middle of the spray

I should clarify, line was 95', the 75 I was referencing was my dad's 75SN...I would stand up outside the wake, then get pulled back into the side of it and get all caddywhompus. When I stood up inside the wake I was fine, except that I planted at about 33 or 34 and didn't get up past 37 before I started to drown. He was accelerating slower than I realized, but I was tired so I said the hell with it and stood up.

While only a short visit, we had fun as always.
The plan was to follow ya'll to sunset, but our guest, while wakeboarding tore something in his ankle (Xray says no fracture, more tests this Monday...), so motored back to the ramp.

We'll be out again July 4th till 6th (staying at the lake) and definitely watch the fireworks at the cove!

Anther CCF GA mini? (we seem to be on a roll here!)

As always with any gathering of CCFans big or small I had a great last 2 weekends. Despite the rain on all 3 days I was with the Hunters we managed to have a great time. There was a bike rally on Lake Lanier Islands so Mike, Gail, April and I went over to that to check it out then out for a ride to pick up a watermelon at a family farm market 30 miles up the road. Got back to the house after dinner to beat the Deen boys by 5 mins. Up till almost midnight catching up then on the water by 730 before the weekend idiots showed up. I got there a little late as I was getting the chicken on the smoker to feed the gang but did get there in time to see Gail flag down some Sea Ray who was approaching the glassy water that Adam mentioned earlier asking them to wait which they did surprisingly. For doing so, I asked the guy if he wanted a pull behind mine which he jumped at the chance. The grin on his face was awesome and he couldn't thank me enough for doing so. He was thrilled to get a pull behind a ski boat as he had never been behind a ski boat. I told him it was the least we could do for stopping and having a little boat etiquette on glassy water. Told me his name was Mike and since we already had one there I started calling him Sea Ray Mike and it stuck!

We all got some good runs in before the water turned to crap and hung out by a beach. April, Gail and I went to retrieve lunch off the grill and just barely got finished when the rains came.... Good food...Great Friends and Sea Ray Mike joined us as well. I have a feeling he'll be looking at and trading the SR for a Ski Nautique SOON after spending the day with us.

Not too many pics as I was grilling out etc. but here are the few I did snap. BIG thanks to those who brought food to share with the crew and pitching in where needed. Never enough time as always but any time spent with CCFans is always great.

West Point Lake 2 weeks ago.....

Borrowed my dad's truck to haul the toys to Mike's place.

April and I headed out for a ride!

Gail and her Sportster.

Mike and his Softtail..

My date for the weekend April who loves the water, loves boating, but can't swim. She did however wanna try to ski as she only tried one other time in her life. She got up the 4th try on the boom.

IAughtNot... even though you're in Cleveland...consider yourself a member of the Lanier crew and you're always welcome to come join us anytime you're in town. Jackie...I know Lagrange is a haul for you and Mama Deen but you guys are members as well.

All the above!

The water turned to shazz shortly after I got my slalom run in but we did find a SWEET spot to congregate raft up that is off the cove we were at that is perfect. The water is too shallow for the big boats to fly thru and the island blocks everything from the main channel. 3 ft deep, sandy bottom and a small beach to serve from. So whenever you're back in town we can do it all over again.

I just watched all the videos, looked like a ton of fun. Mom did a good job with the camera.

Adam, I like the frantic waving back and forth. That is a new move to me. The front tumble to shoulder was pretty sweet too. Never let go! (I start physical therapy on my shoulders this week). You get the award for longest plant on a step off ever. Arms down and plant foot more under than to the side and you won't have to rock so far, come down so hard, and spray your face. Rep after rep, you took a ton of runs, they did and will pay off. Obviously you overdid it a bit there and strained the groin. I can't cheek.

Jackie's shortline deep water, now I know where the brand "SprayMaster" came from. OMG! That's totally old school form (but it obviously works).

Jackie's tricks. Awesome, just awesome. Pretty ballsy going for a line step without a release. Line steps are on my radar this year.

Ben the boom buster: You're a big boy. Get your toes over the rope, not ankles. Straight, flat body like a board. That butt plow probably would have developed into a taco if longline.

TimBob's (I love this) "freestyle" slalom run. Were you trying to kiss the tip of your ski? Awesome job with April. If you can get someone relaxed enough to learn to ski who can't swim, that's good coaching.

I was waiting for someone to catch that wave. Here's the explanation. I never tried to cheek on my own, so I told dad to pull me up to about 30, let me try it, if I couldn't figure it out, sling me out. That was me giving up and signaling him to zig zag. I got progressively better as the weekend went on.
Originally posted by Hollywood Hollywood wrote:

I wish I had done that on purpose. I forgot it happened until I looked at the video. It also looked like with a little more speed I could have dolphin started the way I was bouncing.

That was my first step in a long time so I was just trying to get comfortable.

We're getting closer on his deeps. Dad's problem is he learned to deep water in daisy duke's so his instinct is to put his feet in the water as soon as the boat starts. Butt gliding is completely new. He's getting it though.

He made several of those line steps, we just didn't have the camera on for all of it.

That was my fault. I gave him 85 instructions and left out, arch your back, straight as a board. And then when the boat started and he started to drag, my reaction was, needs more throttle. That was not correct. The end result speaks for itself. Good think Morfoot hadn't left his house yet, he was able to bring his boom down.

Looked like 2 boots so dragging not an option. Regarding grip, todays coaches say what HW is telling you, as a RFF I have been using the "wrong grip" like you my entire skiing life, tried changing but just not feeling it. My only hope would be start the season on the new grip. I do switch it up when turning or resting in an effort to adapt.

Looked warm, it was 34deg around here last night, ughhh
