Subject: Lake Clinton Il, fall 2015
Date Posted: July-17-2015 at 10:21am
We've settled on September 11-13 for our Lake Clinton 2015 "End of Summer" bash.

This will be like years past, Bring your own everything and share with the group. We'll get on the water early Saturday for some good skiing while the lake is nice then raft up in the afternoon for a 90 degree soak and retire to the campground for a potluck dinner.

We've started booking camp sites in the A loop at the state park. A42-44 are ours so let's get online and reserve the rest of A loop like we usually do.

You can reserve http://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/clinton-lake-state-recreation-area/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=IL&parkId=451791#sr" rel="nofollow - Here

Any and all are welcome, this is typically the last weekend for a lot of our northern ccfans so let's make it a great one. See you in September.

Looking forward to meeting some of the members.

Lake clinton is down south right? If I'm looking at the same place you guys are, it would be a 2 hour drive for us. I'm not sure if we would camp as we can't move our camper out of our camp ground because we want the boat. My dad seems interested maybe I could get our uncle also.

Good deal Brian, if you haven't been to lake Clinton in the fall you're in for a treat.

Now let's get the rest of those camp sites booked so we own the entire loop!

Reserved site 40A. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Alan, you bringing the Hurricane down? There's an outside chance dad could pick up the Continental in Wisconsin on the 9th. If that actually happens he'd love to bring it to Clinton and I figured you'd be a good guy to hang around on our first weekend with the boat.

I'll probably bring both for the weekend, need to get Todd's dad a ride and this will be the last chance this year. I'd love to see the Continental, progress pictures look awesome.

By the way, 40A is a nice concrete pad site, Good site for the big motorhome.

You too Alan. I must say, I check CCF in the morning and again in the evenings throughout the boating season. It's always great to see such wonderful support from all the knowledgeable members. I've learned so much in the last 12+ months of lurking on CCF. Maybe I can contribute more when I have more experience with mine,

Mark, I must have fat fingered something when I was making reservations. I was just looking at the site numbers and somehow I had A42 and D41! I made a change in the reservations and Rob is now in A49 which is going to work out just as well. Basically across the street. Sorry for the confusion and looking forward to seeing everyone!

Our crew will be in later Thursday night although I haven't added that day to my reservation. Myself, Wife (Zoe), little man (Maddox) and most likely be accompanied by PicturePat. Still planning to bring the RV and most likely 01 SN.

I wouldn't mind making a trip up to the Liquid Edge on Friday. Need to look for some ski gear and wouldn't mind taking a pull behind the new Prostar if possible.

1. Crashed our SUV last weekend (everyone is OK, 3 weeks for repair)
2. Still waiting for new boat trailer to be built
3. Same weekend as our neighbor's big music festival
4. Same weekend as a 3-event tourney we go to every year

Perfect storm for the Hughes family to have to bow out. And before anyone super nice offers up their stuff because this is such a great group- I am not comfortable borrowing vehicles or boats.

Would anyone like our campsite? If so you can be the "Hughes" for the weekend or I'll cancel it.

We've had a change of plans. We'll be the "hughes" family for the weekend, and have moved into site 46, formerly occupied by the M3 clan.

Also, due to a funeral our friend with the camper will be unable to join us. That means we'll be tenting it.

Won't be the first time, and probably won't be the last.

There will be a few small Coleman grills, we'll set up a tripod over one of the campsite pits for grilling. I'll have some charcoal but another bag or two might be needed.   See everyone late Friday, most likely around 9.

Looks like I am going to make it down for a short trip. The plan is to pick up Hollywood between 5 & 6AM on Saturday, which should put us down their around 10AM. I am going to bring the Bass, HW promised me he would try to ski it, and anyone else is welcome to try as well. It will also be available for anyone to take a high speed pass and scare the crap out of yourself while flying the bass. I am currently running 100ll Aviation fuel, so we can play til we run out of gas, unless someone knows where we can source some no ethanol 91, or avfuel.

We'll plan to crash in someone's campsite. What else do we need for the potluck?

Most folks rolled in Friday late afternoon or evening. A couple of boats made it out on the water that evening.

Saturday was cool, cloudy and windy. Most of us tied off in a cove and soaked in the warm water for a few hours before enjoying a good potluck dinner, drinks and stories around the campfire.

Sunday was a much better day on the water for those that were able to stick around. There was skiing, boarding, surfing, even some footin' going on. The air temps were still cool, but the sunshine and calmer winds made a world of difference compared to the day before.

It was good to see some familiar faces and to meet some new ones. I think RJ's wife was snapping some pictures. Hopefully they will post soon.

Cold but still a great time! I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get used to jumping into a lake this time of year and being warm. Standing on the platform with your feet in the warm water is an extremely odd feeling!

Ripping across the lake in Steve's Bass Nautique Saturday afternoon was insanely cold after sitting in 90 degree water for a few hours. Well worth the discomfort and I knew we were going fast when Zach's dad gave him the thumbs down sign! Hopefully we didn't do any major damage

A trolling motor would have come in handy but HW and I got a good laugh watching them wrestle the boat onto the trailer.

The sun did make an appearance on Saturday afternoon after everyone else loaded up and started cooking. HW and Zach laid down a few nice runs footing (thanks to the excellent driving crew). Can't remember what this ski was called but it threw one sweet roostrer tail.

Not sure where HW is looking??

Sunday morning was great and I managed to leave my phone at the campsite. It's always fun watching these boats do what they do best and seeing the owners enjoy some nice water. Wish we could have stayed around longer and enjoyed the water a little more.

Thanks to everyone who helped with this weekend cooking, cleaning and keeping Alan away from the "Angry Juice".

Special thanks to everyone who chased Maddox around (especially Todd and his wife, Renee). Not sure what Todd thought when I told him Maddox and his daughter were in his camper together...unsupervised. I imagine he won't be nearly as cool with it 15 years from now!

We're looking forward to making this trip again next year! To anyone who hasn't experienced this crazy warm water followed by sitting around the campfire listening to Todd-isms.....you gotta make it happen!

The bass is suffering from an OLD ignition switch. Power to the solenoid, spun the starter, so I am not worried, just have to trouble shoot the switch - it is 30 years old.

That ski, was actually made by my Dad. They used to use it in the Dubuque Water Ski Shows. Has a big scoop on it to give the rooster tail. It was great to see it on the water again, thanks Hollywood!

Proof that it runs, this was early Saturday and they had to be frozen solid!

Only way to stay warm was in the water.

They were either sinking or getting ready to surf, RJ and his gang.

Don't think we quite hit 70 on Saturday but the water was toasty as usual.

It did start to clear up late Saturday and the sun finally came out but we were committed to warming up by the fire and getting some food cooking so not much skiing. Still a great day on the water though and Sunday was actually one of the nicest fall days we've ever spent on the lake.   See ya next year.

Unrelated threadjack...I assume that's Steve's Ford Escape. How does it tow? I assume it has the 2.0L.

I relinquished the helm to Hollywood and had no idea how much warmth that little console and windshield actually provided...

You were going fast, when looking at the GPS, you were generally running between 50 and 60 mph, somebody pulled a max speed of 68 mph...

Ford Escape with 2.0 Ecoboost. It tows fine. Boat and motor hanging weight is just under 2100 lbs empty- no gear, trailer must weigh about 1000lbs. I am guessing I am right at the max tow capacity of 3500 lbs. Gas mileage drops from around 24 mpg (at 77 mph) to around 14 mpg (at a slightly lower average speed).

Not super ideal weather Saturday but a blast none the less. Big thanks to Brian and Norm for feeding me the whole weekend and good company, Alan and Dana for sharing time Saturday morning and Sunday to go skiing and some much needed skiing advice, Tim for taking me on another run Sunday and letting me try out your gear. Todd and Renee for their hospitality both Friday and Saturday nights. Good to met and chat with some great people from CCF I hadn't met yet. The extremely warm clean water was a real treat, defiantly wont be the last time I'm there!

Next time I'm in your boat I'll reprogram that to a real speed and then lock you out of it

My preset is 33 mph and I free ski at 28' Off.   Good enough for someone chasing imaginary bouys.

remember we're on a river so on a typical day I will adjust the speed depending on whether I'm heading up or downstream and current strength.   I've tried river mode and it's not worth the bother, we adjust manually to conditions

Yep not issues. I went to KY the week before and had similar issue as at Quinners. I ended up putting in a new fuse box and putting an inline fuse to the ignition. No problems since.

Hey, you guys think Joel's hot pocket is done yet? I threw a extra log on the fire when we left sunday just to finish it off....hope that was enough! Had a very busy week at work traveling so didn't have time to post on thoughts but I have a ton of them!

I must say that even though Saturday was a bit tough on the water, the potluck dinner more than made up for it! With everyone's contributions we had one of the best potluck dinners I have ever taken part it! It was a heck of a lot of fun to both help cook and watch all the conversation happening in the background. I do think this guy had a grin on his face just watching everyone having fun visiting with people only seen a time or two a year. If you didn't make it....you missed out for sure! Thanks again to all those who brought food and contributed!

Yes, it was great seeing all the boats ranging from the mid 60's to the most recent correct craft but most importantly it was seeing the people. GL has always been a bit of a cornerstone to see people from all over but this gathering was probably a bit more fun because there were people there that I hadn't met such as Brian, Norm, and Mike Mars. Then we got to see the Lichtenstein family and a surprise appearance by Brian and Deb! Always good to see local people that aren't "regulars" but feel like "regulars" to the CCF family. Then we get the die hard travelers called the Riley's and the Leinen's who came from Wisconsin and Indiana. Always love seeing the" killer whale" and rob's new ride at Clinton. Nice upgrade Rob! And the long haul award goes to the Mars family. You definitely know how to ride in style but most importantly I appreciate the information you bring about these old boats. I really enjoyed listening the Chris talk about all these old CC's along with Brendella's and others around a good campfire. Priceless!

If you haven't caught on yet I had a blast at the 2o15 Clinton gathering. Yes the lake sucked Saturday but Sunday more than made up for it!! there was enough excellent water and sunshine for all the people to do what they wanted. I got some of my best slalom sets in along with watching Evan ski a few times. I want to give a big shout out to Zach for giving me pointers on landing my first successful deep start barefoot off the boom. The water level is a bit lower at the lake now but that is ok....I accomplished my 2015 goal for barefooting so I am very very happy! Thanks again Zach!

Folks, we have big shoes to fill for 2016!!! Also I am glad I can entertain with my drunken toddisms! Elmer Fudd aims to please!
