I just bought a steering cable for my 1986 correct craft ski Martinque. I thought I'd see if anyone had any tips before I attempt to replace it by myself. Or should I just pay the going rate and have someone install it?

It's not that difficult. Tie a rope to the old one and pull it out. then tie the rope to the new one to pull it in.

Not a stupid question at all. Folks come to this site to find simple (and sometimes complex) answers to questions. Its stupid to not seek advice and then pay the price later...

The rope trick described above works great. I did the same thing on my '94.

When tying the rope onto the cable, it may seem obvious but I'll state it: Make the peckerhead on the rope small (the knot or the way to attach rope to cable). I've seen pictures on here where people have a 2" gob on the peckerhead and can't figure out why it won't go meanwhile snagging every wire on the way. Lubing the peckerhead up real good with KY sure helps too.

I'm sure Quinner can answer that for sure. If it comes by the Qt. or Gallon he would know!

Please don't pay somebody to do this. Use a rope, pull it through, go skiing.

And the thread title reminds me of one of my favorite movie lines ever, "Remember: There are no stupid questions, just stupid people." (tongue in cheek, of course)
