Cool, Thanks for that.
As soon as I get permission I will post some pics of it now. Or if you forward your email address I can email them over..
The gel coat actually buffed out better than we thought so no hull/gel coat/paint looks necessary. We paid $2,000 for it, which is about what the trailer is worth, so it didn't really matter what the guy said. I do remember something in the ad about low hours, but I knew after all these years most likely we would need to disassemble it to check it over anyway. My son and I do aircraft restorations as a hobby and lately we have been restoring and overhauling engines for 1996 - 2001 E38 and E39 BMWs, so the engine is not too scary for us. We have a 1994 Sport Nautique that we will either sell or keep depending on if we get your boat back in the water. The interior is new and almost complete and quite nice. Time will tell, but as long as we can find the parts, we want to restore it. So far it has been difficult to locate the engine cover especially.. CC said they don't have the mold any longer so don't offer it. I have most of a windshield and heard you might have some of the parts? But that was a long time ago so you probably sold them. What CC do you have now? Stop in anytime if you are heading north. We are 5 miles N of Madsion.... Gary

Gary,
Permission isn't needed for posting pictures on site so, we'd love to see the project.

No parts here, lol, Most of the severe damage was sustained on the highest parts of the boat, Dog house and observer seat structures were intact but the vinyl was very much cooked, not sure why those were thrown out or missing?? The other pieces you have listed were pretty well cooked so not surprised they need replacing. What I can tell you is I bought that boat new, it had around 450hrs at the end of the 2003 season when it went into storage where it was exposed to a fire. It was running perfect at the end of the season with all the factory original parts, plug, wires, cap, etc. I did all the maintenance and the oil + filter was done mid season and at layup as we were putting about 100hrs a season on during that time. I would not be too quick to think it needs a rebuild, dump some marvel down the plug holes and rotate the assembly and see how it feels/sounds.

Wow, that's impressive how well it buffed out. How hard would it be to make a mold of the dog house if you had a dog house to go off of?

thanks for the contact and comments. On the dog house, I was thinking the same thing. I have made molds in the past for various airplane projects and would love to make one for this project. Do you or anyone else have one I could use?

I don't but, I'm sure someone on this site has access to one. Even a broken one would help as long as it is all there. I'll definitely be on the look out. I wish we lived closer, I'd gladly come help. This looks like a neat project.

Not sure I would describe that as buffed out, lol. Is the area that was redone in black gel or paint?? IIRC the deck gel above the rub rail along the starboard side between the windshield and stern was damaged down to the glass, is that area gel or paint??
That particular clamshell doghouse was used for quite a few years, betting finding one of those will not be too hard. Check with Christines Marine (site sponsor banner above) for parts also.

Hello I am Robert Bymers-Gary's son. That description of the damage makes perfect sense. Someone had painted or gel coated the whole deck. Also, someone painted it with some great quality paint but only did the black on the starboard side and from the windshield forward on the port side since the paint scheme is now different. They left the blue alone. I buffed out the whole boat with a high speed buffer and 3m compound and it really came back to life!

I'll check with Christines Marine for the dog house. I just ordered those new skins for the sport Nautique from Christines and they turned out great. I will bother them later today.

Couple other things, ordered the boat with a shower, heater, Perfect Pass and Ballast Tanks. I can see the PP actuator still on the motor, module should be under the dash pod, if it survived, the system was the basic cruise. Don't remember if the shower valves were in the trunk or below the gunnel on the port side, pump would have been attached to the motor mount area. Heater core should be behind the kick panel, on/off speed dial was below the throttle. Ballast consisted of 2 tanks, there were 2 pumps, 1 for empty 1 for fill, the control valves were below the throttle and I just cannot remember where the 3-way toggle was for empty-off-fill.

Thanks for all of that. It all makes sense because there are bits and pieces to the shower and ballast tank pumps and controls. The tanks/ballast sacks seem fine. I will do my best to figure out the plumbing and your memory of where everything was will help, but that will come later. I have had the engine soaking with a special recipe of WD40, fogging oil, and Marvel's for a few weeks so we will see how it looks this weekend and may even try to start it before we make a decision to overhaul or not. I like overhauling engines so may do it no matter we see...

Did you find the passenger side windshield? I have a line on a '99 sport nautique port side windshield with the walk thru glass. Pm me if you are interested.

Thanks,

Kyle- If Gary doesn't take this one, there was a guy with a 98 sport here a couple of weeks ago looking for a walk through windshield.    could be the same windshield for both boats.    I don't recall his screen name, but he was in Washington state (Seattle area)
