Tim,
Have you heard how the deicing equipment is working on the other side of the airport? The weather that is hitting and is going to hit the east all the way into Florida sounds bad.

Haven't heard anything as of yet but if I do I'll let you know. Through the power of FB My College Classmates in South Ga got a White New Years of sorts and posted Videos and pictures of the stuff. Funny thing about it is that my daughter attends Valdosta State University and was in school when we got it here and now that she is home for Winter Break, they are getting it there. She can't win. Hurricanes are a different story. She road out Irma in the dorm....Go Figure!

**EDIT** Delta did close flight ops to Savannah & Brunswick Airports yesterday. I'm sure the lack of de-icing equipment was the main reason.

By a strange coincidence Pete we passed thru Atlanta yesterday escaping the -3 weather at home heading for the currently balmy 45 of the Florida Keys. At dinner last night we actually saw a guy wearing shorts 😉!    Hope the boat is ok I never saw a need to winterize

Gary,
I hope the time up north has acclimated you to some cold. I do understand the cold has reached pretty far south. 45 in the keys!!!

Tim,
Us northerners just thought it was time for refresher training on dealing with snow and ice.

.... Never ceases to amaze me of the freaking native idiots that drive like its a NASCAR race. No real bonafide lanes on the interstate as the snow has covered the lines and reflectors only troughs exist and sometimes split the lane but people still driving 50+ mph even in the far left lane where it's totally covered. FREAKING MORONS!!!!

Once I got to the guard shack at the main gate a car turning out of Tech-Ops was up against the curb with his hazards on....Talked to the guard and he said .."Yeah, young kid thought he was gonna be cool, goosed it a little as it he was leaving and you see what happened." Guess he learned a lesson the hard way! The drive home should be interesting. High today only 29 so it's not going anywhere.

Atlanta boat show starts tomorrow!

Tim, same thing up here. First few storms people don't slow down and have to learn to drive in it all over again. At least your snow will be gone tomorrow and won't be hanging around till April. I don't fly much, but can't say I've ever liked sitting on a plane when its snowing watching it get de iced before leaving the gate.

Tim, you might need a snowmobile to get to the boat show!

Took me a while to get to work too, but only because of others stuck or in a wreck. A guy was sideways in the street in our subdivision and I couldn't get out till we got him moved. In front of our subdivision was a wreck so I made sure everyone was ok and when I walked up to small pickup I noticed the front of it was burning. He was sitting in the truck and didn't have a clue!!

Snow on top of ice, not too nice

In snow nothing, Here in ATL it is the ice under small amounts of snow. You can go 50, but stopping is a bitch .

Correct on the amateurs!! I have lots of time spent in Montana driving ice/snow packed roads. This was back when salt was unheard of and stops had some sand sprinkled on them. State highways through canyons with no guard rails and 500 feet to the river below. Now in Wisconsin, it's ridiculous how much salt they spread ruining cars and the environment.
Yup, amateurs!! .

50 on a decent road is not so bad if it's just snow. We have one major roadway in Maine that goes south to north. There's a lot of truckers from New Brunswick Canada using it that go at least 70 in snow storms and blow by everyone. You cannot see anything, but white for about 30 seconds after they pass you.

Them truckers scare the cap out of me. 22 years and 2 1/2 million miles of driving one of them still can't figure out how they plan on stopping. Then there are the ones that drive 70 in thick fog because they know the road like the back of their hand (famous last words). Usually don't tell I drive truck because of the way some of these idiots drive these days.

Just to touch on the driving above 50+..... You gotta remember that we see snow so seldom around here that folks just don't have the experience driving in it. Greg is right....it's the black ice that's under the snow that's the issue. 50+ mph and one car length behind the guy in front of you on untreated roads is NOT the smartest thing to do, Well over 200+ accidents in one metro Atlanta county alone and at least one death because they had a accident, got out to check damage and another car hit the same patch of ice, skidded and slammed into the person killing them. Lots of black ice on the roads today on the drive into work. Dale Jr. wrecked his car in NC after helped a stranded motorist. Happens to the best of us!!

Gary.......they aren't THAT white!

Ha Ha that got a rise out of a few people.   Even here in "snowville," MT plenty of idiots on the road. Its getting worse too since the ski hills are getting more well known and Bozeman is a desirable place to live. Lots of people coming that don't know how to drive.    Rarely a day goes by on my commute that someone hasn't crashed on the interstate. Hope its not me one of these days.

Pete they still don't allow salt on the roads here.   They will however put mag chloride on the streets in town which they say is non-corrosive. I have always wondered why they put it in a plastic tank then?

It doesn't surprise me at all that all those Californians don't know how to drive on ice and snow pack!! I googled mapped Big Sky the other day and could barely recognize the place. Lots has happened in 40 years!!

I had to drive up to VA from FL with a tight schedule. At about 11:30pm -4:30am I hit the bad stuff and the back roads were iced over and not plowed. Between Bennettsville S.C. to Eden NC I passed only fourteen vehicles running on the road and 24 that slid off the road and were wrecked.
